Case Manager - Temporary Position

Position Description

Journey Out assists victims of commercial sexual exploitation and sex trafficking leave a life of abuse and violence, overcome their fears, and empower them to reach their full potential and achieve their goals.

Journey Out is a leader in the fight against commercial sexual exploitation and sex trafficking and has been working with victims in Los Angles for more than 40 years.

We pursue our purpose through a variety of interventions including emergency response, counseling, education, supportive services, outreach and advocacy. We provide the critical services and support needed to break free from the abuse and violence of sex trafficking and rebuild a life. We also provide prevention programs to ensure no one ever enters the life.

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Temporary Case Manager will provide case management, mentorship and guidance to assist victims to find safe housing/shelter, provide basic necessities and access to an array of services to enable a way out of sex trafficking or commercial sexual exploitation. Utilizing a strengths-based approach, Case Manager will advocate on client’s behalf within and outside of systems and with social service providers. Applicants must be familiar with, and practice, key social work values, ethics, and responsibilities to clients. They must also be comfortable working alongside law enforcement and community partners to provide desperately needed services to victimized and exploited individuals. The Case Manager must practice good boundaries and work from an empowerment model, meeting the client where they are at utilizing the Stages of Change Theory for intervention and service provision.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide holistic and comprehensive case management services to all clients including intake assessment, benefit assessment, goal setting, long-term case plan development, weekly case plan development, progress monitoring, court advocacy, and referrals.
  • Facilitate groups for clients according to a curriculum to assist individuals out of the commercial sex industry.
  • Collaborate with outside agencies for the specific needs of our clients.
  • Provide crisis response, intervention, and comprehensive case management to victims of human trafficking in collaboration with the Journey Out Team.
  • Provide outreach on behalf of Journey Out as needed.
  • Advocate on behalf of the clients within the context of the criminal justice system, Department of Social Services (DPSS) and other agencies.
  • Assist clients with enrollment in schools throughout the LA area, connecting them with financial aid and fee waivers.
  • Input accurate and complete data for all clients into agency database, including inputting client services into database on a daily basis and documenting data needed for community partner collaborative programs.
  • Adhere to agency policies, procedures, and the professional code of ethics.
  • Completes all appropriate documentation required by Victims of Crime reporting
  • Data entry in accordance with Victims of Crime reporting requirements
  • Assist in development, implementation, and revision of individual treatment plans; ensure services provided are specified in the Treatment Plan and monitor progress toward treatment goals.
  • When deemed necessary, accompany client to court, general relief, school, hospital, and medical appointments.
  • Participate in regular staff meetings, staff training programs and supervisory sessions.
  • Develop ongoing referral list of agencies providing services within the community.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Accountability:

This position reports directly to the Director of Programs and Operations, working closely with all program staff toward the attainment of client and programmatic goals. This position will be needed from June 1, 2024 to October 31, 2024.

Qualifications:

  • Preferred bachelors in social work, social science or other related fields or extensive background in casework management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with good documentation skills.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing direct services to individuals in crisis
  • The ability to establish rapport and trust with clients. The ability to work with clients with a non-judgmental, empathetic manner and with a clear sense of boundaries.
  • Must have Group Facilitation experience working from a curriculum
  • Preferred knowledge/training of the dynamics of sex trafficking, prostitution, trauma, domestic violence, sexual assault, and Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children (CSEC).
  • A strong sense of and respect for confidentiality involving both clients and fellow employees.
  • Experience working with persons in crisis.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team setting.
  • Ability to problem solve.
  • Knowledge of community resources and counseling/social work practices with high-risk groups.
  • Must be computer literate and know MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Database software
  • Must be organized, flexible and detail-oriented
  • Bilingual Spanish/English preferred
  • Persons with lived experience of sex trafficking encouraged to apply

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This position is a temporary non-exempt position.

Satisfactory reference and background investigation checks including Live Scan – misdemeanors are acceptable.
