Joint Municipal Water and Sewer Commission is Hiring an Utility Technician Near Lexington, SC

Position Hours

8:00 am to 5:30 pm, Monday through Thursday and 8:00 am to 12:00 pm on Friday

Minimum Job Duties

Performs responsible semi-skilled and administrative work in the operation, maintenance, construction, and repair of a water/wastewater system. 

  • Installing, repairing and maintaining water/sewer lines, meters and related facilities; making line taps.
  • Performs water and sewer line maintenance, repair, installation and replacement tasks.
  • Installs, replaces and repairs water and sewer lines, taps, hydrants, valves and meters.
  • Raises and lowers manholes and valve boxes; taps high-pressure lines.
  • Connects water and sewer pipes to mains and service connections.
  • Helps determine cause of leaking water meters.
  • Repairs water meters; installs water meters; repairs leaking water and sewer lines.
  • Cleans up work site after job has been completed.
  • Changes out water meters; makes taps on lines.
  • Responds to sewer and water line problems.
  • Prepares and maintains equipment and vehicles.
  • Operates tap machine, dewatering pump, dump truck, utility truck, boring machine, jackhammer and related light and medium equipment.
  • Is required to work overtime and/or be on call.
  • Performs related tasks, as required.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED required.

Some experience as a worker in the field of maintenance, repair, and/or construction of utility lines.

Must have a valid SC Driver's License.

Must be able to read and write. 

Must be knowledge and understanding of appropriate safety procedures/protocols and respond to emergency situations. 

Ability to safely operate common hand tools, power tools and assigned equipment.

Ability to preform manual labor for extended periods, often under unfavorable weather conditions.

Beneficial Skills & Experience

Any level of licensure in Water Treatment or Water Distribution as issued by the State of SC Environmental Certification Board.

Any level of licensure in Wastewater Collection as issued by the WEASC.
