Job Description:

Position Overview:

This position is for a Linux Engineer supporting the Army Edge Computing Capability (AECC) project that Project is fielding for the US Army in the Pacific theater. The AECC solution is a hyperconverged, multitenant private cloud hosting environment for hosting Army enterprise and tactical applications. AECC is utilizing the full suite of VMware products (ESXi, vSAN, NSX, vCloud Foundations, ARIA Automation, Tanzu) to implement a Software Defined Data Center (SDDC) across multiple global sites. Project is integrating the Hashicorp Vault and Terraform, Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform, and the GitLab Ultimate Suite into the AECC solution to provide an automation platform in addition to the VMware ARIA capabilities along with a DevSecOps framework for the Army Tactical users to utilize. Project provides value added common and managed services built on top of the VMware foundation, that hosted Army applications will require. Project is a managed service provider (MSP) and hosting services provider for Army applications. Project is a Product Director office under Program Executive Office Enterprise Information Systems (PEO EIS).

Position Duties:

• Work with Government engineers to develop and maintain the AECC architecture.
• Develop, deploy, and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for deployment and sustainment of the Linux based services in the AECC.
• As new applications are hosted on the AECC solution, utilize IaC for the provisioning of the customer Linux resources.
• Maintain Linux patching servers for all Linux hosts to patch from.
• Provide daily administration of the Linux based AECC services.
• Harden the Linux based services per commercial best practices and the required government cybersecurity controls.
• Troubleshooting and root cause analysis of any Linux issues.
• Coordinate major version upgrades of existing Linux virtual machines by deploying new virtual machines resources and assisting application owners with migrating to new VMs and then tear down the old VMs.
• Develop and maintain system, infrastructure, and process documentation (system diagrams, network topology, software configurations, device configurations, standard operating procedures).
• Provide on-call support for triage and resolution of after-hours production incidents.
• Make recommendations for improvements to security, scalability, manageability, and performance across a wide variety of network, storage, and compute services and technologies.

Required Skills:

• Senior level experience with Oracle Enterprise Linux/Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
• Strong automation and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) skills to include Terraform and Ansible Automation Platform.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong troubleshooting skills across the entire technology stack network, storage, server, and applications.

Desired Skills:

• Working knowledge of DoD Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIG) and the Information Assurance Vulnerability Management (IAVM) process.

Required Certifications:

• Security or equivalent DoD 8570.01-M IA Tech Level II certification.
• Must have (or obtain within 6 months of hire) Linux administrator related computing environment certification as defined in DoD 8570.01-M, one of the following for example:
  • Oracle Certified Professional Oracle Linux 8 System Administrator
  • Red Hat Certified System Administrator
  • Red Hat Certified Engineer
