Johnson-Laux Construction is seeking a very experienced Commercial Construction Estimator to join our Team. Preferably one who is familiar with Job Order Contracting and Unit Cost Pricing (ie. eGordian and RS Means) This position requires a minimum of 3 years experience working as a FULL TIME estimator for a Commercial General Contracting Firm. Must have GENERAL CONTRACTOR experience estimating Healthcare, Government, Educational, Airport/Aviation Facilities, Etc. Applicant must fully understand all construction (CSI) divisions, Must be excellent working with Excel Spreadsheets, Must be able to compile detailed scopes of work, thoroughly understand construction drawings inside and out, ability to perform take-offs, analyze subcontractor proposals., scope review meetings, etc. etc.
Principle Estimating Activities and responsibilities:
Perform multiple project estimates concurrently
Perform accurate and detailed takeoffs
Reviewing and understanding of plans and specs
Reviewing Addendums
Writing detailed scopes of work
Accurately evaluate / analyze subcontractor pricing
Quality and material takeoffs
Process RFP, RFQ, and internal pricing requests
Facilitate broadcast announcements of bidding opportunity
Competently draft, proof, audit, and deliver both private and public proposals.
Work on multiple company bids simultaneously and delivering in accordance with deadline objectives
Develop, prepare, coordinate, and execute presentations and proposals to existing or new clients
Compile and send RFI’s
Set up project estimate and determine general condition costs
Complete Preconstruction Check List
Communicate with architects and engineers
Creating, updating, and organizing subcontractor and vendor lists
Develop cost saving suggestions for client
Develop conceptual and budget estimates
Other duties assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Proficient knowledge of specialized foundation systems, civil, shell construction, exterior systems, finishes, and mechanical and electrical systems
Ability to estimate all aspects of a commercial construction project, assemble into a final estimate, and present to client
Must be able to operate as a “stand alone” estimator capable of handling complete projects from beginning to end
Utilize historical pricing for conceptual estimates
Excellent written and oral communication skills
