Johnson Controls International is Hiring a Material Manager Near Largo, FL

What you will do

The Materials Manager Manages overall plant efforts to assure consistent, economical, and timely flow of both purchased and raw materials to support the manufacturing efforts of the facility to meet the customer’s needs and expectations by performing duties personally or through subordinate supervisors and/or support personnel. You will be responsible for Purchasing, Shipping / Receiving, Production Scheduling, Inventory Control functions and JCMS Material Control Principles.

How you will do it

  • Responsible for on-going cost reduction efforts operates within budget and contributes to the overall reduction of expenses.

  • Maintains production levels at the lowest possible cost by using proper methods and manpower to ensure efficiency.

  • Maintains effective working relationship and communication with all departments.

  • Ensures on-time delivery while maintaining quality at the lowest possible cost.

  • Adhere to the Company’s Code of Conduct and Business Ethics standards.

  • Responsible for driving Safety Performance in the plant to achieve and maintain Gold Status (Goal of No Recordables / No Lost Times).

Scheduling, Planning, Supplier Chain, and Customer Delivery

  • Lead scheduling activities, including development of the master production schedule, monitor and report on the accuracy of production plans and schedules.

  • Manage daily support of production needs such as expediting material, setting priorities and addressing supply issues to facilitate speedy availability for Raw Material, and eventually Finished Goods to meet customer demands.

  • Ensure that on-time delivery is tracked, and goals are met while supporting operation to manage at lowest possible cost and inventory.

  • Collaborate with Continuous Improvement Dept, Production Managers to manage capacity requirements planning.

  • Collaborate with Procurement in planning components and raw material from approved suppliers, including management of consignment and blanket PO programs.

  • Works with Supply Chain Management to identify and qualify Tier 1 and Tier 2 suppliers, work with Quality to set up and maintain vendor quality acceptance processes.

  • Establish and maintain Kan Ban systems to assure on demand flow of materials to the Manufacturing floor.

  • Establish and manage consignment programs for materials and blanket purchasing agreements for commodity items.

  • Develops and manages a Purchased Material Cost Reduction Program for both Raw Materials and Purchased Parts.

Inventory Management

  • Lead inventory control & planning activities including the coordination of cycle counts and physical inventories.

  • Manage inventory forecasting and reports on variances.

  • Manage the identification and disposition of excess and obsolete inventory.

  • Coordinate scheduling and inventory movement for all outside processing inventory locations.

  • Maintain inventory at lowest level while ensuring efficient operational processes and maintain customer delivery expectations.

Warehouse, Shipping, and Logistics

  • Manage transportation activities for both inbound and outbound freight according to Logistics approved carriers and financial policies and guidelines.

  • Responsible to ensure all warehouse operations have proper material handling equipment and resources to complete tasks on schedule and safely.

  • Coordinate with Supplier Quality group to set-up and maintain vendor quality acceptance processes.

  • Collaborate with Logistics for new carrier selections and contracts.

  • Manage Transportation contracts both in-bound and out-bound to assure Customer needs are satisfied.

Systems and Reporting

  • Maintain department KPIs in accordance with JCI established targets while maintaining quality at the lowest possible cost.

  • Perform role of Plant Principle Champion for JCMS Material Control Principle

  • Develop training and implementation plans for processes within maturity levels in accordance with plant objectives.

  • Develop budget and labor requirements for Inventory Control, Warehouse/Shipping/Receiving, Purchasing and Scheduling groups within the plant. Maintains effective working relationship and communication with all departments.

  • Responsible for leading projects related to Continuous Improvement and Cost reduction efforts in accordance with Plant Management goals.

  • Supports and leads 5S activities.

What we look for:

  • This position requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience, and minimum of six (6) to eight (8) years of experience in a manufacturing environment, with Buyer, Production Scheduling, and Inventory Control experience. 

  • Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing experience and/or certification.

  • Mechanical and analytical ability is a must. 

  • Must be able to analyze and interpret complex technical procedures, business periodicals, and journals as well as write reports and procedure manuals. 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite Applications (Excel, Word, Access, and PowerPoint) as well as Internet software and E-mail is required)

  • Must have very advanced skills in Excel (all aspects)

  • Extended knowledge of MRP and ERP experience (Fourth Shift, SAP experience preferred).

  • May be required to travel 20% of the time. 

  • APICS Certification in CPIM, CSCP OR CLTD Preferred.

  • Has demonstrated high-level performance in current and previous positions.

  • Has shown initiative, the desire to drive change and is motivated to exceed expectations.

  • Has solid leadership skills and able to manage both vertically and horizontally

  • Possesses basic statistical knowledge and the ability to apply statistics to product and process improvement projects.

  • Has sufficient experience within the Company to be able to understand the organization and its business processes.

  • Has at least a certification as a Green Belt and/or certification as a Lean Implementer.

  • Has demonstrated effective interpersonal skills and the ability to exercise influence without authority.
