This position may be filled by a Clinical Nurse Specialist or a Nurse Educator.

About this position:

The Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist practices as an expert in the application of the nursing process and theory within the cancer/oncology specialty. The primary responsibility of the Clinical Nurse Specialist is to advance patient care directly in the role of expert clinical practitioner and indirectly in the roles of educator, consultant, researcher, change agent, collaborator, clinical leader, role model, and patient advocate.

The Oncology Nurse Educator provides professional development and education to assist staff in preparing for contemporary practice and support in acquiring the evidence-based knowledge and skills needed to competently care cancer patients. She/he facilitates bridging the gap between research and evidence-based practice ensuring quality and safe patient care both directly and indirectly. She/he participates in the assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating activities associated with comprehensive unit-based and hospital-wide nursing educational needs.

What You Will Need:

CNS

  • Licensure as a Registered Nurse (R.N.) in the District of Columbia which includes a certification and a separate CNS license.
  • Master’s degree in a CNS track from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Three years of full time RN experience in Oncology.
  • BLS CPR certification.

Nurse Educator

  • Licensure as a Registered Nurse (R.N.) in the District of Columbia.
  • Master’s degree in nursing or related discipline preferred or must be matriculated into a master’s program within 9 months of employment.
  • Board-Certification in oncology preferred or acquired within 9 months of employment.
  • Minimum of 5 years oncology experience as R.N.
