Johns Hopkins Medicine is Hiring a Life Safety (Door) Maintenance Mechanic Near Baltimore, MD

POSITION SUMMARY:

Performs maintenance, inspection, adjustment, repair, installation and modification work on building doors, closers, lock sets, frames knob sets, door armor and door stops in accordance with Compartmentation guidelines. This work is performed under general supervision using the tools and techniques of life safety technology.

High school diploma or equivalent.

Successful completion of formal training in an approved Life Safety program at a vocational or technical school, college, or apprenticeship sponsor organization.

Knowledge of Life Safety techniques, procedures and materials especially pertinent to door systems and components and asbestos.

Extensive knowledge of building codes, fire codes and standards.

Knowledge of safety rules, procedures and practices, including the proper use of safety equipment as defined by OSHA and industry standards.

Applies life safety and general safety knowledge indicated herein. Safely uses tools and equipment indicated herein.
Ability to solve problems and manage information indicated herein.

Requires proficient written and verbal English communication skills, at least on an high school graduate level, to interact with departmental/JHM staff.

DIMENSIONS:
A. Budget Responsibility:

Identifies and avoids hazards as indicated by warning labels, signage, lights and other warning devices.

Performs work within reasonable lengths of time as measured against trade, industry or engineered standards.

Johns Hopkins Hospital Certificate Requires 5 years related work experience.

The full-time equivalent spent in an approved program may count toward the 5-year work experience requirement.

All types of tools and equipment normally used in the life safety trade, powered bench and hand tools (such as drills, grinders, compressed air), as well as non-powered hand tools.

Requisitions inhouse stock items.

Suggests to supervisor those materials which may need to be requisitioned from outside sources.

Amounts vary and are usually charged to departmental cost center, but may be subsequently allocated otherwise.

Effectively uses resources within control.

Makes decisions based on trade practices and supervisor direction as appropriate for the scope of this position.

Recommends and participates in departmental life safety operations development, improvement, and implementation as it relates to current/anticipated workload.

Trains peer and lower level positions as directed by supervisor. Identifies, analyzes, diagnoses and resolves routine life safety problems.
