Department: Medical Staff Administration

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Credentialing Supervisor provides experienced leadership to the Department’s credentialing team to ensure timely completion of assignments per schedules and departmental criteria while maintaining his/her own credentialing assignments to process applications of new and renewed members of the Professional / Allied Health Professional Staff. This position will support and coordinate special departmental projects related to the credentialing process, office procedures, and regulatory standards. The Credentialing Supervisor will be responsible for management of the Credentials Committee, and working with the Centralized Credentialing Office to standardize and improve credentialing workflows. This position ensures that the credentialing process complies with organizational as well as accrediting agency, Federal, and State regulatory standards. Excellent command of oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills necessary to interact diplomatically with diverse groups of people, exchange information, and produce written correspondence.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  1. Supervises day-to-day activities of the Department’s credentialing program.
  2. Ensures that all credentialed practitioners are appointed and/or reappointed in accordance with accrediting body regulations and hospital policy and procedures.
  3. Monitors verification process and works with the CCO and other departments or entities to resolve problems and address delays for both initial appointments and reappointments.
  4. Supports the Credentials Committee and is responsible for the preparation of credentialing materials for monthly meetings, including:
    1. Initial and reappointment files that require detailed review, identifying area(s) of review.
    2. Preparation of reports regarding the cumulative numbers of files processed and other information as appropriate.
    3. Other topics relevant to the credentialing process including policies, delineation of privileges FPPE/OPPE review, and compliance issues
  5. Ensure timely and appropriate appointment letters are sent to applicants following action by the Board of Trustees.
  6. Responsible for creating reports needed on a monthly basis to monitor appointments, reappointments, and expirables and ensures all licenses, registrations, and other expirables required to be maintained as it relates to compliance are current and up-to-date.
  7. In collaboration with the Director, monitors productivity of credentialing team through establishing metrics and internal team audit, and provides training and recommendations for improvement as needed.
  8. In collaboration with the Director, ensures all identified compliance programs, as it relates to credentialing and credentialed staff, are designed, implemented, and enforced (e.g., HIPAA, flu vaccination, education modules).
  9. Responsible for initial and on-going training of all new credentialing team members as it relates to credentialing processes.
  10. Develops and implements policies and procedures to ensure efficacy of the credentials program, database management, and data entry.
  11. Monitors staff compliance with policies and procedures through feedback and knowledge of credentialing processes.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: An Associate’s degree is required.
  • Licensure/Certification: CPCS certification is helpful.
  • Relevant Experience: Demonstrated experience of five or more years in hospital-based credentialing and medical staff services.
  • Skills and Abilities: Extensive knowledge of hospital-based credentialing programs. Excellent command of oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills necessary to interact diplomatically with diverse groups of people, exchange information, and produce clear and concise written correspondence. Organizational skills required to manage and complete competing priorities timely. Manages a specialized database, including production of reports needed to meet deadlines and manage workload. Adheres to professional confidentiality standards in accordance with legal, ethical, and departmental policies.
