Description

Reports to: Warehouse and Logistics Manager

Operate industrial forklifts equipped to move materials around the warehouse and grounds and otherwise handle receipt, storage, and shipment of product to ensure product safety, quality, and legality.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily safety inspections on forklifts and complete checklist. Report any needed maintenance to Approved Contractor.
  • Safely operate levers and controls that operate forklifts to load, unload, transport, and stack material. Report any damage of property or product immediately.
  • Emergency Exits should not be blocked, ensure there is a walk-way to reach them.
  • Ensure that the product storage area is clear of any risks affecting product safety and complete the appropriate checklist documenting your actions, including the following:
  • Monitoring wooden pallets to prevent the risk of contamination or damage to Pallets should not be stacked greater than 15 high.
  • Utilizing knives or other sharp tools in such a way as to prevent damage to products (snap off blade knives are not used.)
  • Ensuring that no non-ingredient food or liquid is present in the warehouse area, including warehouse waste receptacles.
  • Ensuring that waste accumulation is kept to a minimum via frequent disposal.
  • Ensuring that external waste collection containers are managed in such a way as to contain discarded products and other materials and not attract pests. Such containers should remain closed at all times.
  • Inspecting the facility for potential harborage points, pest entry points or evidence of pests. This includes correct use of the screened and regular dock doors.
  • Recording all spillages or breakages that pose risk of contamination on an incident report.
  • Position lifting devices under loaded pallets, skids, and containers and secure product for transport to designated areas, while maintaining the utmost in product safety.
  • Ensure that both incoming and outgoing shipments are properly sealed to ensure food safety, quality and legality. This includes ensuring the accuracy of all legal paperwork governing the transport of product, such as Bill of Ladings, which must be signed.
  • Inspect the load, pallet by pallet, on all four sides for exposed/damaged product. Accurately take action by placarding all products and moving them to stock if no damage is present. If exposed product is present, correctly document (including OS&D form with picture) and move product to the Quality Hold Area awaiting disposition.
  • Manually or mechanically load and unload materials from pallets, as necessary,

Understand and Apply the "5 Rights" of Receiving, Stocking and Shipping

  • Right control document - Blue/Purchase Order, GP Inventory Report or Yellow/Picking Ticket BOL#
  • Right Product, Weight and Unit (example: Kena 50# Bag)
  • Right Number of Units, Pallets, etc.
  • Right Documentation Allergen, Lot Numbers, Sign offs, Second Sign offs, and BOL Loading Sign offs complete
  • Right Timing/Priority - 1) CPU/JRWT, then LTL, 2) Receiving 3) Zone Defense REAL TIME Data Collection Note: Errors can happen and thinking about these points can help to avoid these errors.

Shipping

  • Stage orders the day before, with the priority of CPU/JRWT then LTL.
  • Always pull the older product first.
  • Count all individual products on each pallet, to ensure the count matches the pick ticket.
  • Does not use any unnecessary placarding or paperwork used only for JRW purpose (so as not to confuse the customer).
  • Stack dry on top of liquid.
  • Ensure that Allergens are not stacked on top of Non Allergens.
  • Ensure that the packing configuration of product is done in such a manner as to prevent the risk of damage (e.g. overhanging bags). Ensure that all re-stacked pallets are wrapped tightly to prevent damage
  • Inspect alt 4 sides of the pallet for damage.
  • Ensure that all vehicles are loaded in a manner which prevents damage, and that loads are secured to prevent movement during transit.

Receiving

  • Look at the receiving schedule the day prior to the receiving date and create holes in the existing warehouse stock to safely place product. There should be space between rows, to allow for safe handling and to prevent damage. You have the primary responsibility for your assigned zone.
  • Properly placard allergens and non-allergens. All pallets should have a placard indicating the type of allergen, receiving date, and who received the product. Avoid staging or double handling product when possible.
  • New product should be placed behind older product, stock rotation required.
  • Inspect ali 4 sides of the pallet for damage. Do not put any products with damage into stock, relocate product to the Quality Hold area until product receives disposition,
  • Compare the product quantity per the Receiver to the Bill of Lading received to ensure they match. If they do not match, alert Purchasing. Always have paperwork when you greet truck (clipboard)
  • Count all products on the pallet to ensure it meets the required number.
  • If product is bound for Tyson, place COA label in upper right corner.
  • If we receive product from a supplier that is not in acceptable condition, meaning that it can't be safely stacked or that it is not properly wrapped, please immediately notify the Quality Manager. We will get with the supplier to improve and to ensure their pallets are stackable.
  • Remove any "Do Not Stack" stickers or placards; those refer only to product not being stacked while it is being shipped. Also remove any LTL stickers.
  • Products should not be placed into stock unless they are ready to ship. Standardize the pallets before placing them in stock to ensure only ONE partial pallet per product remains.
  • Ensure that the Lot on the bags agree with the Bill of Lading. Alert Purchasing immediately if not.
  • Damaged product should be signed off on by the freight carrier on the Bill of Lading, indicating the # of bags damaged. If, after the pallet is down stacked, the # of bags actually damaged is different from the initial count, communicate the change via the SharePoint O S & D Form. The form must be created before the receiving paperwork package is turned in.
  • Combine partial pallets (if they are different lot #'s, use a slip-sheet between them) and write "Mixed Lot #'s" label to place on the pallet.
  • Slip sheets are required on all products located between the pallet and the product. If a supplier fails to comply, notify the Quality Manager immediately.
  • Sweep out the row before stocking product.
  • Apply stickers for look-alike/sound alike upon receipt (upper right hand corner)
  • Zone Defense All items in stock should be read to shi at all times.
  • Ensure that all products are stored off the floor on pallets and that slip sheets or plastic cover all tops of products; no product bags, boxes, buckets, etc. should be exposed to dust and dirt.
  • Stack pallets 3 high, if safe (check with Floor Lead if assistance is needed).
  • Rotate product properly (older product in front).
  • Stack product in as straight a line, neatly as possible.
  • Ensure product is stored in the proper area, including segregation of Allergens and Non Allergens.
  • Place all partial pallets to the front of the row and indicate the # of bags on that pallet.
  • Do not have more than one type of product on a pallet.
  • If an item has been placed in your zone, you are responsible for its condition (must be in ready-to-ship condition at all times.)
  • Keep all areas clean, includes completing SP checklist.
  • Ensure all pallets are properly receiving allergen placarded, if not notify the Quality Manager immediately.
  • The employee whose zone products are stored in is responsible for ensuring that proper spacing between rows is in place and that damaged products are properly disposed of and that the oldest product is facing in such a way as to be the next one picked.
  • Other duties as assigned, including assigned back-up duties.
