John Marshall Bank is Hiring a Financial Reporting & Technical Accounting Senior Accountant Near Reston, VA
Summary The Financial Reporting and Technical Accounting Senior Accountant will be directly responsible for supporting the preparation of our Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filings and ensuring ongoing SEC Exchange Act reporting requirements are met, as well as assisting with other internal and external reporting matters including monthly management and board reporting, investor presentations, etc. The position will also assist with research over technical accounting and SEC matters and develop whitepapers, policies and procedures, and business requirements as needed.Essential Functions
Prepares all SEC filings including Quarterly and Annual Reports on Form 10-Q/K, Proxy Statement, Form 8-K, Form 3/4s and other filings, as required.
Prepares the quarterly earnings release and investor presentations, as needed.
Assists in review of XBRL tagging.
Creates and maintains SEC calendars and planning documents to communicate and manage deadline adherence.
Prepares the consolidated financial statements.
Prepares the monthly Board of Directors' reports and manages the internal review for these documents.
Prepares the allowance for credit losses model and review adequacy in accordance with policy.
Performs account reconciliations and organize large volumes of data to create meaningful analysis and trend reports.
Performs various monthly and quarterly analyses to assess the bank’s performance and guide executive management decision-making.
Monitors and ensures timely identification of and compliance with evolving accounting guidance, provide GAAP interpretation and document issues in a clear, logical, and comprehensive manner.
Maintains in-depth knowledge of US GAAP and SEC rules and regulations as well as research and propose company positions on complex accounting issues.
Researches accounting and financial reporting requirements using all available tools, recommending accounting treatment for complex transactions.
Performs disclosure research by reviewing examples of peer company financial statement disclosures.
Develops new SEC disclosures and technical accounting memos relating to new or amended accounting pronouncements, significant transactions, etc.
Provides support to external auditors during audits and interim reviews. Coordinates requests and manages the flow of information and documentation.
Develops, manages, and implements accounting policies and procedures in compliance with US GAAP.
Initiates special projects required to meet SEC reporting requirements.
Maintains a good working relationship with bank employees.
Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently, as well as motivated to work as a team player to contribute to the success of the department, and in turn the organization.
Performs additional duties as assigned.
Required Education, Experience and Skills
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) (or progress towards obtaining CPA) - preferred.
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting or relevant discipline – required.
3-5 years of professional experience, prior SEC reporting and/or public accounting experience - preferred.
Banking industry experience– preferred.
Experience with core banking systems and report writing software – preferred.
Experience with financial reporting technology such as Toppan Merrill – preferred.
Unquestionable integrity in handling sensitive and confidential information - required.
Ability to work effectively with a team.
Quantitative and analytical skills to analyze statistical information, demonstrating proficiency performing data analysis to support business decisions through financial modeling, graphical presentation, and analytical writing.
Strong problem-solving, attention to detail, organizational, data review and time management skills, with the ability to accurately manage multiple assignments, goals, and reporting requests, ensuring deadlines are met.

Advanced use of Microsoft Excel (to include pivot tables and macros), with the ability to learn and adapt to new technologies quickly.
