Purpose of the Muskegon Shop Manager/Lead Carpenter

As the Muskegon Shop Manager you are taking ownership of keeping the shop clean and organized. You will be working closely with assisting the Project Managers and Estimators to ensure they have all supplies they need for their team. You must be a strong communicator, time manager and punctual. As a Lead Carpenter you are taking ownership of helping to restore homes for the communities of people we serve. You must provide excellent craftsmanship and outstanding communication to help us achieve our purpose of restoring lives.

Key responsibilities and duties

  • Work on job sites as a Lead Carpenter on Monday and Wednesday. Work as Shop Manager on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 7am-4:30pm.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment in the shop and on worksites
  • Provide support to Estimators/Project Managers
  • Effectively communicate with staff to ensure product availability and deadlines are met.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are a must
  • Think creatively and problem-solve in the moment
  • Willingness to teach, train and educate other team members
  • Demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of construction and job site safety.
  • Excellent time management, delegation, and multi-tasking skills
  • Be a team player while able to work alone when needed
  • Ensure all expenditures are appropriately applied to job costing
  • Organize and manage equipment and tools in the shop
  • Attend project hand-off meetings with Estimator/PM
  • Skilled at framing, trim/cabinets/door, windows, exterior finishes, finished carpentry etc.
  • Drive company vehicle to jobsites- follow all traffic laws.
  • Communicate technical knowledge and expectations in a professional/effective manner to homeowners who may be unfamiliar with construction terminology and process.
  • Communicate with Project Manager daily to ensure projects are on track.
  • Oversee 2-4 staff – ensure high quality of work and set clear expectations.
  • Work to develop carpenters and other team members.
  • Work week is typically 40-45 hours a week, not expected to exceed 50 hours during busy times.

Requirements:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is a very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, and climbing. The employee must have the ability to lift and/or move items over 75 pounds.
  • Candidate for employment must have a valid driver’s license and a clear driving record.
  • Candidate must pass a criminal background check to perform work on insurance related claims.
  • Basic knowledge of smartphone/email technology.
