John Crane is Hiring a Retrofit Engineering Manager (Morton Grove IL) Near Morton, IL

John Crane is currently seeking a high level technical engineer to be a key leader and technical expert within the Gas Seal Engineering team. This individual will focus on managing the daily activities of the global End User and Retrofits engineering team to deliver products to customers on time. He or She will actively develops the team members’ technical skills and career advancement. and be able to forge collaborative relationships across the organization, including Commercial, Sales, and Operations areas of the business. This individual must have excellent customer management and communication skills.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage team of mechanical engineers and designers to provide precision engineered gas seal products to compressor end users.
  • Interpret complex customer specifications & make decisions based on the available technical information.
  • Communicate effectively with customers to answer technical questions.
  • Communicate Gas Seal End User Engineering KPIs to management and other stakeholders.
  • Drive use of global standards and consistency across diverse office locations.
  • Support automation efforts to reduce engineering lead time for quotes and drawings.
  • Provide long term vision for team and effectively manage hiring and resource planning to handle demand.
  • Manage all end user / retrofit gas seal engineers and designers in two key offices (US and UK).
  • Ensure that customer technical requests are fulfilled by team in a timely manner with high quality output of team.
  • Positive attitude toward teamwork.
  • Support Commercial and Sales colleagues in lead time reduction and technical support.
  • Foster cross-training and continuous improvement mindset between Engineering and Operations
  • Quickly respond to all customer enquiries, maintain good relationships with customers, and give regular technical presentations to customers to support the business.

The Individual

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or similar.
  • Technical expert in dry gas seals or similar rotating equipment / turbomachinery / compressors, minimum 7 years relevant experience.
  • Tribology experience a plus.
  • Management / supervisor experience a plus.
  • In-depth knowledge of energy industry, oil and gas end users, and compressor OEMs.
  • Excellent communication skills with internal and external groups.
  • Proficient in CAD, 3D modeling, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing. Able to check complex engineering drawings for accuracy and manufacturability.
  • Solid understanding of design for manufacturing.
