John Crane is Hiring a GAS SEAL TEST TECHNICIAN Near Morton, IL

Under general supervision, the Seal Repair Technician is responsible for all processes related to disassembly and assembly of rotating equipment. The Seal Repair Technician - follows instruction from a Repair job packet and router to perform DCI (Dismantle Clean and Inspect) and gives a written description of the wear and condition of critical components seal. This position, completes all inspection forms taking pictures of all critical components, and uses inspection equipment for proper documentation of the assembly. With assistance identifies, inspects and evaluates material returned, determines repair operations, performs simple shop operations, verify specifications, initiate work and purchase orders.

Duties & Responsibilities

SPECIFIC DUTIES, ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
  • Perform all aspects of necessary duties (i.e. proper usage of tools and instrumentation, rotor balancing, blue print interpretation, record keeping, etc.) required to assemble and test dry gas seals safely
  • Troubleshoot problems associated with seal assembly and testing
  • Installation and setup of seals into the appropriate test rig and operating the rig to test conditions indicated within the appropriate test plan
  • Reading instrumentation, recording data and calling immediate attention to variations from acceptable criteria and specifications
  • Prepare, organize and maintain documentation as required for seal assembly and testing
  • Assist test engineer in setup and running of more critical and/or complex test seal designs
  • Assist to prepare drawings for assembly/disassembly tools and/or fixtures
Maintain high quality in all aspects of the job
  • Maintain high productivity, as determined by the supervisor, in all aspects of the job
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor

The Individual

High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Associate Degree in Engineering, Mechanics or Applied Science with courses in mechanical drawing, mathematics, and shop practices is preferred
  • Must possess a high mechanical aptitude and ability to read blueprints
  • Good oral and written skills are required, including the ability to communicate with customer representatives during witnessed seal testing operations
