Job Description

Description:

This is a temporary summer school teaching position at Hopkins High School, creating a classroom environment in which fosters learning and personal growth; to motivate students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide an excellent education, in accordance with each students’ ability; to establish effective rapport with students, parents; and to work collaboratively with other staff members.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials; and provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
  • Teaches district-approved curriculum.
  • Translates lesson plans into developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere.
  • Evaluates students’ academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records and in a timely fashion prepares progress reports. Communicates this information regularly with parents.
  • Identifies student needs and makes appropriate referrals and develops strategies for individual education plans.
  •  Provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of the student.
  • Maintains a professional day, as defined by building/and contract.
  • Communicates regularly with parents outside normal classroom day by means of newsletters, notes, phone calls, e-mails, etc.
  • Works in a supportive and collaborative manner with colleagues and supervisors.
  • Participates in a personal professional goal-setting process on a regular basis.
  • Knowledge of instructional design for students with educational needs in reading and writing, including the
 


Qualifications:
  • 9-12 Science licensure required.
  • Candidates will demonstrate the following: prior experience, interest, and skill in working effectively with secondary school students; desire and ability to work cooperatively with other department members; a positive attitude and strong human relations skills; excellent classroom management skills; ability to adapt instruction to various learning levels and styles; openness and availability to students; teaching effectiveness. Commitment to working effectively with students and families from diverse cultural, ability, and economic backgrounds; demonstrated preparation, skill, and commitment to providing for the individual learning needs of all students; ability to create positive, inclusive learning environments for all students; skill in using positive, constructive disciplinary approaches; ability to organize and plan for student learning.
  • Familiarity with current teaching/learning theories; skill in establishing and maintaining positive relationships; diversity of interests and experience; ability to work with secondary school students.
 
Compensation and Schedule:
  • 4.5 hours daily, 4 days per week, 20 days total.
  • Salary per the HEA Contract.
