The Underground Equipment Operator specializing in Horizontal Drill and Propelled Plow is responsible for efficiently operating and maintaining specialized equipment for the installation, maintenance, and repair of underground telecommunications infrastructure.

This role requires expertise in using horizontal directional drills and propelled plows to ensure the precise and safe installation of cables and conduits.

Qualifications :

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of specialized training programs in horizontal directional drilling and propelled plow operation.
  • Proven experience as an equipment operator with a focus on horizontal directional drilling and propelled plow technology in telecommunications projects.
  • Valid commercial driver's license (CDL).
  • Certification in the operation of horizontal directional drills and propelled plow equipment.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, bending, and working in confined spaces.
  • Comfort working outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Keen attention to detail to ensure precise drilling and plowing operations.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and address issues promptly.

Job Details

Horizontal Directional Drilling :

  • Operate horizontal directional drills to create precise underground pathways for cable and conduit installation.
  • Collaborate with project teams to ensure directional drilling meets project specifications and design requirements.

Propelled Plow Operation :

  • Utilize propelled plow equipment to bury cables and conduits in trenches, minimizing surface disruption.
  • Ensure the accurate and efficient installation of telecommunications infrastructure using propelled plow technology.

Equipment Maintenance :

  • Conduct routine inspections and maintenance on horizontal drill and propelled plow equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Perform minor repairs and coordinate with maintenance teams for more extensive maintenance needs.

Safety Compliance :

  • Adhere to strict safety protocols during the operation of equipment, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and compliance with industry safety standards.
  • Conduct pre-operational safety checks on equipment before each use.

Excavation and Trenching :

  • Assist in trenching operations to create pathways for cables and conduits, ensuring alignment with project requirements.
  • Operate equipment in confined spaces while maintaining a focus on safety and precision.

Communication and Coordination :

  • Collaborate with project managers, supervisors, and construction teams to coordinate activities and ensure project timelines are met.
  • Communicate effectively with team members during drilling, plowing, and excavation operations.

Documentation :

  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, including equipment logs, daily activity reports, and any modifications to project plans.
  • Report any issues or concerns related to equipment performance or project requirements.
