Our office is located within walking distance to both the county and city courthouses in a new brick office building that compliments the historical downtown of Gillette, Wyoming.

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Criminal Defense Attorney to join our dynamic team. This is a permanent position that offers an exceptional opportunity to make a significant impact and contribute to a high-profile law firm. The successful candidate will be a dedicated, hardworking individual with a strong background in criminal law and a proven track record in criminal defense.
Associate attorneys represent clients in court daily as well as perform legal services including legal research, drafting motions, orders, judgments, status updates, and overseeing and analyzing discovery, conduct motion hearings and jury trials.
Responsibilities:
1. Represent clients in criminal court proceedings on various charges and misdemeanor offenses.
2. Develop strong and persuasive defense cases based on detailed research and investigation.
3. Conduct legal research to determine the potential case merits, identifying the relevant laws, judicial decisions, and legal articles.
4. Handle all aspects of the criminal defense process, including pre-trial motions, plea negotiations, trial preparations, jury selection, trial arguments, and sentencing procedures.
5. Engage in regular client consultations to update them on case progress, legal options, and potential outcomes.
6. Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, ensuring their rights are protected and their best interests are represented.
7. Collaborate closely with paralegals, legal assistants, and other team members to ensure all case details are thoroughly explored and prepared.
8. Keep abreast of legal developments, new laws, and legal precedents relevant to criminal law to ensure the most effective defense strategies are utilized.
Qualifications:
1. Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
2. A minimum of 3 years of experience as a Criminal Defense Attorney or similar role.
3. Active member of the State Bar Association in good standing.
4. Extensive courtroom experience with a proven track record of success in criminal defense.
5. Exceptional negotiation skills and the ability to interpret laws and legal jargon for clients.
6. Strong analytical skills and the ability to think critically and make sound judgments.
7. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to maintain confidentiality and build strong client relationships.
8. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a dynamic team environment.
9. Strong commitment to ethical legal conduct and a passion for criminal defense work.
10. Proficiency in legal research software and Microsoft Office Suite.
