Founded in 1988, the National Eczema Association (NEA) is a501(c)(3) nonprofit and the largest patient advocacy organizationserving the 31 million Americans who live with eczema and those whocare for them. JOB SUMMARY

Selected by, reporting to, and working closely with the Board ofDirectors, the President/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will providethe leadership, vision, and strategic direction necessary toadvance NEA, its staff, and the community it serves to the nextlevel. They will: manage day-to-day operations and activities;supervise a dedicated, empathetic, and productive staff; and be thevisionary, inspirational, and compassionate face of NEA.

A key responsibility for the new CEO will be to lead developmentof the next strategic plan. They will have primary oversight for:developing and implementing strategies that result in increasedvisibility; new and more diverse sources of funds; significantlyincreasing the number of donors and dollars raised; expanding NEA’spatient-centric advocacy capabilities; and growing NEAexponentially. The CEO will also steward and expand NEA’spartnerships in the pharmaceutical and medical communities.

The CEO focuses on long-range goals, growth, strategies, plans,and policies, routinely exercising discretion and independentjudgment in the performance of their job duties. With NEA’sleadership team, this person will champion and enhance, asappropriate, initiatives related to NEA’sthreePillarsof programmatic focus for meeting the needsand leveraging opportunities for all those affected by eczema:Community, Knowledge, Collective Action.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership and Organization Management

  • Provide thoughtful and visionary leadership that is transparentand empowering in a manner that supports and guides theorganization’s mission.
  • Present strategies and plans for organizational impact,garnering Board approval and support as needed. Contribute to thestrategic plan and drive its implementation.
  • Establish goals, objectives, and operational plans incollaboration with the Board of Directors and leadership team.
  • Apply innovative thinking and performance measurements toanalyze and support strategic decision making.
  • Oversee NEA’s day-to-day operations and ensure its overallsuccess; lead, positively motivate, and inspire a committed staff;understand their strengths and concerns and encourage theirprofessional growth; delegate authority appropriately.
  • Foster the collegial working environment that will enable thestaff to continue to function productively and effectively as awhole in a culture committed to the remote work environment.
  • Organize, motivate, and mentor internal team leaders tostrategically and effectively grow NEA’s impact, programs, andfundraising.
  • Continually foster a culture that encourages communication andcollaboration between departments and recognizes positivecontributions.
  • Inspire a strategic, professional, results-driven environmentacross the organization.

Development and Fundraising

  • Drive development and fundraising in collaboration with teamleaders and leveraging the Board of Directors.
  • Initiate, cultivate, steward, and extend relationships with theorganization’s donors and supporters.

Financial Management and Administration

  • Provide strategic leadership and hands-on management for alladministrative and operational functions of the organization inaccordance with the mission, objectives, and policies.
  • Assume responsibility and accountability for the fiscalintegrity, stability, and sustainability of the organization byprudently directing resources and maintaining healthy cash flow,adequate reserves, and robust fundraising.
  • Build, administer, and monitor Board-approved budgets; ensuremaximum utilization of resources and optimum financial positioningfor the organization.

Governance

  • Build strong relationships with the entire Board, providingleadership and support to members, communicating effectively, andproviding them with the information necessary to function with bestpractices and to make informed decisions in a timely and accuratemanner.
  • Prepare for and attend all Board meetings, providing regularreports and updates to ensure that Board governance and fiduciaryresponsibilities are met.
  • Effectively interact with the Board as needed to buildconsensus and support for CEO initiatives.
  • Implement Board policies and procedures.
  • Work closely and openly with the Board and its committees,ensuring ongoing communication of risks and challenges as well asopportunities and successes.

External Relations and Communications

  • Working closely with senior leadership, oversee all internaland external communications for NEA including all aspects of theorganization’s marketing and public relations; ensure that theorganization and its mission, programs, and services areconsistently presented in a strong, positive image; cultivate andnurture relationships with the media; expand NEA’s use ofcommunications tools to reach the wide diversity of current andprospective community members and partners.
  • Cultivate relationships with the broad base of NEA supportersincluding patients and their families, health professionals andother caregivers, Ambassadors and other volunteers, advocates,donors, corporate funders, and scientific research programgrantees.
  • Represent the organization and serve as chief spokespersonpublicly at events, conferences, and partnership meetings.
  • Present and promote the organization and its mission, programs,and partners in a consistently positive manner.
  • Ensure high visibility to prospects and the public and buildinterest in engaged philanthropy.

IDEAL EXPERIENCE

The CEO should have proven experience taking an organizationfrom one level to the next, shepherding it through the challengesand leveraging the opportunities that come with exponential growth.They should have the following experience and qualifications.

  • Personal or professional familiarity with and/or an ability toquickly gain an understanding about the eczema ecosystem,especially eczema research and treatment, and how NEA can bestfulfill its mission and goals.
  • Seasoned business acumen with at least 10 years of broad-basedleadership and management experience in the for-profit, public, ornot-for-profit sector, ideally within a health-related field;proven strategic planning, managerial problem-solving, resourcedevelopment, and financial management abilities; experience growingan organization significantly in both revenue and scope; experiencewith major donors.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a board of diversebackgrounds, personalities, and accomplishments.
  • A proven record of success leading a staff of similar size andbuilding consensus for strategic plans and executive decisions;ability to recruit and retain talent on both the staff and theBoard; success as a creative, thoughtful, and resourceful risktaker with knowledge of when to move forward and when to holdback.
  • Experience with a thought-leader organization or taking one tothat level, even as the external organizational ecosystem advancesand shifts.
  • A successful track record in fundraising, with a demonstratedability to attract financial resources from corporations andindividuals; the ability to personally interact with and cultivatedonors; knowledge of the philanthropic community is a plus.
  • Excellent public speaking skills for both formal andextemporaneous presentations; experience working with the media isa plus.

COMPENSATION

The salary range for this position is $275,000 to $325,000, andNEA offers an attractive benefits package.
