Title: Sr. Manager, Energy & Sustainable Operations

Location: 100% Remote - (NJ/PA area, ideally somewhere between the Philadelphia and NYC metro areas)

Duration: 7 months

Summary:

The Sr. Manager, Energy & Sustainable Operations is accountable for enabling Company facilities in the Americas region to achieve Company's climate objectives, including 100% renewable electricity by 2025 and net zero emissions across our value chain by 2045. This is achieved by administering energy efficiency and clean energy programs to reduce risk and deliver savings while reducing CO2 emissions.

This position includes conducting industry benchmarking for energy and water efficiency, on-site clean energy use, and a low carbon value chain.

This role is responsible for analytics, benchmarking, and budgeting to support energy and conservation initiatives throughout the entire facilities portfolio. An ideal candidate for this role will have demonstrated experience in facilities management, particularly in the area of utilities equipment, and energy conservation along with executing strategy within a robust, mission driven, and largely outsourced facilities organization across manufacturing, R&D, office, and warehouse sites. Key relationships include communication and coordination with Facilities Management (FM) regional and site leads, as well as subject matter experts across E&PS and business leaders as appropriate, to ensure successful implementation and management of the energy program across regions.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Director, Program Integration and regional energy leads to determine short- and long-range goals and objectives for the program and establish program priorities, milestones, and deadlines
  • Support development and deployment of policies, standards, and strategy globally for energy and conservation (E&C) including:
  • Climate-friendly policies and outreach
  • Energy and water efficiency and clean energy programs
  • Sustainability energy performance ratings
  • Manage development and implementation of E&C operations to align with overall business objectives
  • Serve as expert in organizing large / complex energy and conservation design initiatives
  • Govern energy management systems on regional (local) basis
  • Ensure effective technologies are incorporated into E&C design standards
  • Facilitate energy procurement process in region inclusive of clean energy options
  • Responsible for horizon scanning and energy related regulatory needs in region (i.e. U.S. EPA/DOE or state-level programs).
  • Participate in regional peer groups and government/non-government organizations to represent Company
  • Develop and vet new technologies in region
  • Develop improvements for construction and major renovation projects through evaluation of energy and sustainable design technologies and strategies
  • Manage supplier selection and contract negotiations for key energy and conservation initiatives, in coordination with Procurement and the Services Strategy and Governance team
  • Establish effective communication with vendors to ensure product, service and quality standards
  • Manage data collection and analytics to measure performance against energy, water efficiency, and clean energy goals in coordination with the FM Performance Management Specialist
  • Conduct industry benchmarking for energy and water efficiency, on-site clean energy use, and a low carbon value chain
  • Collaborate with regional & Global Workstreams leadership and regional FM operations organization to manage energy and conservation-related nuances among region to ensure successful program implementation and management
  • Partner with Global Workstreams and EHS&S to deliver Company Health for Humanity program goals
  • Develop local programs and rollout methodology to implement FM Energy & Conservation initiatives in region
  • Provide consulting and coaching service to sites in region on executing energy and conservation initiatives
  • Develop projects for the Make organization related to energy and conservation goals and strategy
  • Evaluate effectiveness and impact of energy and conservation programs on facilities and systems
  • Act as SPOC for sustainability initiatives that are all encompassing of or unique to an individual Company business segment
  • Coordinate energy-related reporting to state and federal agencies as required
  • Prepare business case and financial analysis for energy projects in region and submit to the CO2 Capital Relief Program on sites? behalf
  • Coordinate energy deliverables with outsourced Facilities Management organizations in region

Qualifications:

  • University / Bachelor's degree or equivalent focused in Business, Engineering, Environmental Sciences, or related discipline; Master of Business Administration is preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of related experience
  • Experience in facility management (utilities), financial management, OR energy management / sustainability management
  • Strong business acumen and relationship building skills
  • The ability to effectively partner and deliver results in a matrixed environment
  • The ability to adapt emerging best practices and industry innovations to facilities management
  • Strong project management skills, proven organization, coordination and action tracking skills
  • Ability to function effectively and multitask when presented with tight deadlines
  • Ability to influence both site technicians and senior leaders without authority
  • Computer skills, including working knowledge of MS Office Suite

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity within the facilities environment, particularly with chillers, boilers, HVAC, compressed air, lighting, and process utilities like water for injection. Particularly important to understand how to decarbonize steam and hot water systems.
  • Experience managing contracts related to large-scale energy facilities
  • Experience building strategic relationships with internal and external project partners and stakeholders
  • Experience and success managing energy projects in diverse regulatory environments
  • Experience managing complex energy & conservation work streams, specifically across geographically dispersed teams
  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM from AEE), or Lighting Certified (LC through NCQLP) or equivalent industry certification
  • Global experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge related to design or engineering fields (civil, electrical, plumbing, mechanical) as well as landscape, architectural, and / or interior design
