Jimco is a leader in the fuel canopy and structural steel building industry. We are currently looking for an experienced AutoCAD structural drafter.
As a Structural Drafter, you will create and produce technical drawings based on specifications, sketches, and calculations from various resources. You will work directly with in-house and 3rd party engineers as well as with a team of other drafters. You will design structural solutions and requirements from the customer specifications, producing drawings from design documents and customer/engineering specifications.
EXPERIENCE:
This position requires:
A minimum of (3) years’ related work experience in the Structural Steel Industry with a focus in metal buildings, canopies, and/or awnings creating steel fabrication design and assembly drawings using AutoCAD. Strong experience with AutoCAD is required. Strong experience with Microsoft office suite with a focus on Excel and Outlook is required. Familiarity with standard steel manufacturing practices is required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
As a Structural Drafter, the ideal incumbent possesses the following qualifications:
Associates degree in Drafting, or equivalent.
Ability to read fabrication drawings.
Strong detailing/checking skills.
Knowledge of AISC standards.
Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office and AutoCAD, etc.)
Ability to interpret engineering designs and customer-supplied drawings and be able to perform analytical calculations.
Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
Ability to interact professionally and effectively with all levels within the organization.
Ability to work with multiple groups and in a team-oriented environment.
Strong organizational skills.
Ability to complete assigned tasks with little supervision
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Creating permit and assembly drawings, according to applicable standards.
Checking your own work for 100% accuracy based on engineering and customer specifications, and to the shop and QA/QC expectations and requirements.
Perform calculations required in day-to-day assignments.
Provide assistance to other drafters and/or checkers when required.
Performing administrative functions, such as printing, scanning, and emailing drawings and documents.
Actively working to improve daily processes.
Effectively communicating with the team in a productive manner.

Technical Skills- Understanding and ability to read blueprints, specs, structural steel drawings. Knowledge of standard welding practices and symbols, and structural steel shapes and hardware.
