Summary

Support classrooms with Children from 3-5 years old at the Addison-Penzak Jewish Community Center Preschool (part of Jewish Silicon Valley). Hours: 10:00am-6:00pm Monday to Friday.

Areas of Responsibility

Duties including, but not limited to:

• Supervise and ensure safety of children at all times.
•  Be alert to the needs of children as individuals and as a group.
• Check in with the director daily about other tasks to perform before or after breaks start or after they are completed.
• Follow the preset schedule of breaks as closely as possible.
• Be prepared to step into whatever the activity the teacher is doing when you enter the room. This may include but is not limited to:
• Preparing snack for children and sitting with them while they eat.
• Changing a diaper or helping children with toileting.
• Supervising a specific activity such as an art project.
• Taking over her/his station on the playground
• Engaging with children doing routine activities or at play.
• Be familiar with and follow all Preschool and APJCC Policies detailed in the APJCC Employee Handbook, the APJCC Preschool Staff Handbook and the APJCC Parent Handbook.
• Maintain punctual and consistent attendance.
• Keep preschool administration informed of any special needs or concerns about individual children.
• Attend all staff meetings, in-service training and set up/clean up days.
• Fill out all required paper work in a timely manner. This includes, but is not limited to accident reports and incident reports.
• Communicate with colleagues and administration in a professional and respectful manner.
• Always keep developmentally appropriate practice in mind when communicating with children and families.
• Represent the preschool and the APJCC in a positive manner both on campus and off.

Qualifications

Qualifications and competencies:

• Minimum of 12 ECE units required, 24 preferred

Or

• AA or higher degree in ECE/CD or related field.
• 3 units supervised field experienced in an ECE/CD setting.

• Ability to lift and carry at least 30lbs and
• Physical ability to sit on the floor or low chair and to squat down to be at eye level with children for up to 15 minutes at a time and
• Ability to stand and walk for up to one hour at a time and
• Level of physical fitness that allows for keeping pace with the activity level of young children.
