The Jewish Leadership Academy is a world-class Jewish Middle and Upper School dedicated to developing the skills, curiosity, and potential of Miami’s most ambitious students for a life of purpose, commitment, and service.

With a brand new state-of-the-art campus in the Pinewood neighborhood of Miami, JLA will be accepting student applications for grades 6, 7, 9, 10, and 11 for the academic year 2024-2025.

SCIENCE DEPARTMENT ____________________________________________________
The Science Department at JLA provides students with a sequence of deep and rich curricular core classes and electives. The goal of our program is to develop an appreciation of learning and ignite curiosity and critical thinking.
The Middle School offers honors and advanced high-school classes:
● Earth and Space
● Physical Sciences
● Life Sciences
Electives include honors high school-level classes in biology, health science, and botany.
The Upper School core curriculum offers honors and advanced college-level classes:
● Biology
● Chemistry
● Physics (algebra-based and calculus-based)
Electives include advanced college-level classes in biology, chemistry, and physics.
JLA’s multifaceted pedagogical approach uses a blend of Socratic discussions, design thinking, inquiry-based learning, guided experimentation, and project-based learning. Laboratory demonstrations and paced protocol experiments are embedded in every course. Advanced-level classes emphasize open-ended experimentation, inquiry, case analyses, and mentor-guided innovative research.
RESPONSIBILITIES _________________________________________________________
Full-time employment for faculty teaching positions will commence in August 2024.
Responsibilities will include:
● Advisory, media literacy, research, service learning, or mentorship role as part of our unique Friday schedule.
● Tutorial sessions twice weekly
● Robust professional development throughout the year
● Special onboarding and leadership programming with students for the first 3 weeks of the school year
QUALIFICATIONS _________________________________________________________
Applicants must have a minimum of 5 years of teaching experience at the middle/upper school level, as well as a strong foundation in classroom pedagogy. He/She must have an undergraduate degree in a related field, though advanced degrees are preferred. Experience working with gifted and talented students is an asset.
In addition, the successful candidate will demonstrate:
● The ability to connect with and inspire students.
● The ability and desire to work collaboratively on a high-functioning team.
● Excellent people skills.
● Mastery of Google Workspace for Education and an overall comfort with technology.
● Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
● The desire to be a part of a learning community.
● A strong work ethic.
● An understanding of project and inquiry-based learning as well as design thinking.
