Jewish Family Service of Metropolitan Detroit is Hiring a Clinical Social Work Intern Role & Responsibi Near West Bloomfield, MI
Interns get hands-on experience working in a clinical setting, serving both children and adults of all ages. Interns are responsible for individual counseling, as well as case management for a caseload of 6 to 10 children or adults and one short-term therapy group.
Social Work interns are expected to attend staff meetings, peer consultation, clinical seminars, and clinical supervision. Hours must fall within Monday-Friday, 8:30 am – 8:00 pm and two in-person days are required. Some evening hours will be expected, and schedules will be created with support from the social work intern supervisor.
Interns participate in training for Child Abuse and Maltreatment for Mandated Reporters, SI/HI assessments, motivational interviewing, and LGBTQIA support. All interns report to a fully Licensed Social Worker who guides them through a school year-long internship.
Job duties & responsibilities
Complete weekly supervision with Clinical Supervisor
Complete weekly process recordings for Clinical Supervisor and Faculty Advisor
Provide individual and group counseling services to clients
Participates as a member of the multi-disciplinary team, creates and writes treatment goals in collaboration with the client, and reports on goal progress
Consults with other program caseworkers, psychiatrist, and nurse practitioner to ensure quality of care
Maintains appropriate data on clients to document present levels of depression, anxiety, or suicidal ideation. Complete assessments as appropriate, to determine extent of progress and effectiveness of therapy
Establishes and monitors the necessary caseloads, procedures, and resources to manage mental health services for clients
Adheres to the ethical standards and codes of the profession and to the established rules, regulations, and laws.
Participate in activities that promote professional development and use clinical/educational research to enhance therapy services
Supports and follows the policies and procedures of JFS and engages in JFS’ commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism.
Submits records, reports, and assignments promptly (within legal timelines) and efficiently
Demonstrates ability to adjust to and use new approaches in the performance of their duties
Qualifications
Enrolled as second year field placement in an MSW program
Ability to work well with others. Treatment teams are multi-disciplinary and require working collaboratively in order to deliver the most effective treatment
Some experience working with families is a plus
Knowledge & Skills
Experience with understanding of how systemic barriers affect clients
Creation and documentation of related reports and data as required
Extreme comfort working with a diverse workforce and a variety of leadership styles
Strong listening skills, patient, and an excellent communicator
Eagerness to learn new things and able to adapt to constantly changing circumstances
Ability to work with a multidisciplinary team
