Jewish Family Service Agency is Hiring a Volunteer Coordinator Near Las Vegas, NV

We are a non-profit, non-sectarian social agency offering counseling services, emergency assistance, food pantry, senior services, adoptions and professional social services to families and individuals in times of need. The Volunteer Coordinator facilitates all aspects of the recruitment and management of agency volunteers to enhance active participation in the work of Jewish Family Services. The Volunteer Coordinator is key in driving the strategy to strengthen sustainability by increasing volunteer and donor engagement through a diverse and multilayered program, prioritizing the Foster Grandparent and Senior Companion programs. In addition to managing the full spectrum of volunteer recruitment and placement, the Volunteer Coordinator also supports the JFSA to promote volunteer opportunities to donors, schools, businesses, corporations and other groups. This position works collaboratively with agency Project Directors and Senior Service Director and community partners to help define, create and promote meaningful volunteer opportunities that contribute to agency outcomes and impacts; align with agency values and capacity; and respect the dignity of clients.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Volunteer Recruitment and Placement

  • Recruitment: Draft volunteer position descriptions of one-time, on-going, skilled, group and youth volunteer opportunities; Recruit volunteers through timely engagement on the phone, in person, with online tools and at public events; develop and implement intake and interview protocol for potential volunteers to ensure the best match between the skills, qualifications and interests of the volunteers and the needs of the agency.
  • On-boarding: Enforce the agency’s volunteer on-boarding process; ensure that each volunteer completes program-specific documentation, including LiveScan backgroud check.
  • Training: Provide orientation/training to increase volunteers’ understanding of the agency, its clients, services and the role and responsibilities of volunteers; ensure that volunteers are given appropriate training to be successful in their positions.
  • Volunteer Placement: Coordinate volunteer placements with Project Directors to ensure a mutually positive experience; assist with conflict resolution among clients, staff and volunteers according to established agency procedures.

Best Volunteer Management Practices:

  • Develop and improve standards for volunteering with clients; develop and implement strategies, plans, and programs necessary to attract, motivate, develop, reward, and retain the best people to meet the organization’s goals and objectives.
  • Manage JFSA database to maintain accuracy and privacy of all volunteer records. Produce quarterly volunteer engagement reports to demonstrate volunteer contribution to the agency’s mission and strategic plan.
  • Conduct ongoing evaluation of volunteer opportunities, inviting feedback from both volunteers and staff; share feedback with agency staff to acknowledge strengths and successes; make improvements for future volunteer activities.

Program Engagement

  • Staff Training: Help provide ongoing professional development for Program staff that work with volunteers to align staff with strategic plan for sustainability, foster team spirit, increase skills in all aspects of volunteer management to enhance the volunteer experience at all levels of the agency.
  • Work with Project Directors and other JFSA staff to plan formal and informal volunteer appreciation activities and events to recognize the contribution of volunteers and further engage them in the work of the agency.

Community Engagement

  • Engagement: Communicate and engage with staff and volunteers from schools, non-profits and corporations; consistently attend volunteer and organization fairs to broaden agency outreach.
  • Promotion: Develop volunteer marketing and outreach materials on the internet, social and print media through volunteer centers and other outlets in Las Vegas area; regularly update volunteer postings.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum three years of experience working in a social service agency and managing volunteers.
  • Minimum three years of experience managing budgets and administrative systems.
  • Strong computer skills: Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and the internet.
  • Experience with online databases a plus.

  • Ability to recruit and engage volunteers in agency programs and services.
  • Ability to use database systems and processes to track data and monitor progress.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented self-starter who is open-minded, outgoing, flexible and able to manage multiple projects, priorities and deadlines effectively.
  • Ability to work effectively in a non-traditional, fast-paced environment that demands a constant need to adjust to new challenges that arise daily.
  • Strong networking and public speaking skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems, think strategically, positively influence others and foster teamwork to achieve results that are in the best interest of the agency.
  • Strong judge of character in matching volunteers with suitable placements.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, to interact with individuals at all levels within the organization, as well as representatives of parish and community agencies.
  • Capacity to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to produce high-quality work reflecting attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to connect with diverse types of organizations: parishes, schools, businesses, corporations, government and alumni groups.
  • Strong interpersonal abilities, diplomatic and exceptional listening skills; sensitivity to the needs of various agency constituents including donors, prospects, volunteers, clients, staff and community partners; ability to respond proactively to those needs in a consistent and timely manner.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
  • Strong calendaring and time management aptitudes to manage a high volume of incoming phone and email communications.
  • Willingness and ability to travel and to work nights and weekends as required.
  • Willingness to participate in ongoing professional development.
  • Demonstrates the necessary attitudes, knowledge and skills to deliver culturally competent services and work effectively in cross-cultural situations.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $42,500.00 per year
