Summary

The Community Services Director leads the Community Services staff in consistently delivering high-quality person-centered programs that address current and emerging needs and strengthen the Jewish and broader communities by helping individuals and groups build and sustain well-being and meaningful connections. This includes program development, supervision and support of staff, volunteer engagement, participation in fundraising, monitoring program budgets, and implementation of program-specific strategic plans. Along with program staff, the Director is responsible for defining clear goals and measures of success, collecting, and analyzing data, evaluating outcomes, and developing and implementing strategies for continuous improvement. This includes identifying and cultivating opportunities for innovative growth. As a member of the Executive Leadership Team, the Director helps forge the agency’s strategic path, develop, and assess agency policies and practices, and nurture an organizational culture that is consistent with JFCS values. This role also includes identifying and cultivating opportunities for sustainability and innovative growth.

Salary and Benefits:

  • Approximate annual salary: $87,000-94,000
  • Competitive benefits package including medical insurance, 401(k) with match, life and long-term disability insurance, and access to other benefits including vision and dental
  • Work-life balance including 37.5 hour work week, 3 weeks of vacation, paid sick time, paid parental leave, holidays, flexible schedule, and the option to work up to 60% time from home

Essential Functions/Approximate Time

Leadership in Program Management (40%):

  • With program staff, define clear goals and measures of program success, collect, and analyze data, evaluate outcomes, and develop and implement strategies for continuous improvement.
  • Lead department staff in implementing the JFCS strategic plan
  • Identify and cultivate opportunities for innovative growth through new or expanded programs
  • Identify and coordinate opportunities for integration and synergies among Community Services programs, Development, and Communications.
  • Attend and work at some events for each Community Services program

Leadership in Staff Supervision (35%):

  • Provide leadership and direct supervision to all department staff
  • Promote and model continuous feedback, performance development coaching, and holding staff accountable for meeting performance expectations.
  • Cultivate staff engagement and participate in the recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and training of new staff

Representing JFCS and Community Services (10%):

  • Serve as a liaison to other agencies, provider groups, community groups and funding bodies, helping to cultivate JFCS and Community Services as a thought leader and strategic partner

Fundraising and Financial Management (5%):

  • Work with development staff and Chief Program Officer to cultivate and apply for funding
  • Implement and monitor systems and procedures to ensure compliance with funders’ requirements, including preparation of progress reports
  • Monitor revenue and expenses, manage operations based on revenue and expenses, and make budget recommendations to the Chief Program Officer and Chief Financial Officer

Executive Leadership (10%):

  • Serve as a member of the Executive Leadership Team, helping assess and develop the agency’s strategic path, develop, and assess agency policies and practices, and nurture an organizational culture that is consistent with JFCS values
  • Participate in and lead agency committees, task forces, and training

Work Environment/Physical Demands

Indoor office environment for most work. Combination of walking, sitting, and standing in an office setting. Frequent written and oral communication. Occasional lifting, stooping, kneeling, bending, or climbing. Works with and around others. Daily use of computer, telephone, and other office equipment. Some evenings and weekends.

Requirements:

Experience

  • Minimum of five years in positions with progressively increasing levels of responsibility
  • Minimum of two years supervising multiple direct reports
  • Working or otherwise developing relationships with people from diverse backgrounds, such as differences related to culture, religion, financial resources, race, national origin, age, gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, and abilities
  • Community programs/events design, implementation, and management strongly preferred
  • Volunteer recruitment and management strongly preferred
  • Working in or volunteering with the Twin Cities Jewish community is strongly preferred.
  • Monitoring, evaluating, and reporting on outcomes is preferred
  • Promotion, recruitment, and engagement with program participants
