General Responsibilities for all Early Childhood Staff

1. Provide for the health and safety of all children in the school.

2. Provide tender, responsive, quality care, addressing children's needs.

3. Create a positive, warm, individualized, nurturing, environment for children; encourage inquiry and open ended thought.

4. Consistently treat children with dignity, respect and compassion.

5. Create a safe, healthful and secure environment for all children and faculty members.

6. Promote the equitable, fair and consistent treatment of all staff members, parents, and children. Maintain confidentiality.

7. Promote, administer and improve the organization's goals, philosophies, policies and mission statements.

8. Provide a safe environment for all children in the school by keeping them in sight and sound at all times.

9. Participate in all training programs, conferences, seminars, courses and other aspects of professional growth and continuing education provided by the JCC and other outside resources. Fifteen hours per year of continuing education is required for all staff members.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Ø Help to develop the program founded on the understanding that children learn by interacting with others in a setting that contains open-ended activities and materials in an intriguing environment. Children will be enriched by a developmentally, individually and culturally appropriate emergent curriculum that teachers will develop and provide daily.

Ø Provide an environment of acceptance in which children can grow with a positive self-concept.

Ø Meet weekly with your lead teacher to reflect on and review the week's experiences and plan the next week's program.

Ø Help to analyze the cognitive, perceptual, spoken & non-verbal language, social, emotional, physical, and personal developmental needs of each child. Help to evaluate each child's progress on a regular basis with written, photo, video or other forms of documentation to be kept in children's portfolios. Use the curriculum provided by the JCC to guide your classroom work.

Ø Assist in the development of a curriculum that is safe, promotes health, and advances the physical, emotional, social and cognitive growth of children. Help to provide varied opportunities targeting multiple learning styles for children's active participation, independent choices, experimentation and problem solving within the context of a structured setting and program.

Ø Establish and maintain a well-organized, safe, healthy environment for children. Plan for and maintain appropriate staff to child ratios for supervising children at all times. Check materials, equipment, and supplies to see that amounts are adequate and that they are in good repair. Take preventative measures against hazards to physical safety. Care for and maintain equipment within the school.

Ø Establish positive communication with parents/guardians in daily casual conversation. Concerns or negative information about any child must be discussed only with the lead teacher or director.

Ø Check voice mail, e-mail, and mailbox daily.

Ø Use positive guidance, which encourages children and teaches them to communicate more effectively.

Ø Complete accurate reports as directed (attendance, accidents/incidents, illness reports, medication administration, ID checks, etc.)

Ø Maintain First Aid, CPR, and TB certifications. MAT training is optional.

Ø Provide a safe environment for the children by keeping them in sight and sound at all times.

Ø Teachers are responsible for the cleaning of the classroom, including: sweep floors, wash dishes, wipe counters, wipe the front of the cabinet doors, put things away, etc. The maintenance department is responsible for the sanitation of bathrooms, cleaning and polishing floors, and vacuuming rugs and carpets on a daily basis. When repairs to existing classroom equipment are needed, you need to fill out a work order and return it to your supervisor. If something needs immediate attention, please inform your supervisor.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required:

Pay starting at $15.19 an hour and up to $16.95 an hour
