DETAILS
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Arranges for, or refers clients in need of assistance for services such as transportation, homecare, meals on wheels, Medicare, Medicaid, housing, etc.
Provides information about health, welfare, education, and recreational services available to older adults.
Assists the director in developing appropriate group programs and works with committees.
Attends in-service training and staff meetings.
Interprets the Agency’s program to members.
Serves as a substitute in the director’s absence.
Works closely with community agencies to meet the needs of clients and to publicize the center’s programs.
Answers telephone inquiries and acts as a troubleshooter, referring calls as required.
Utilizing a computer, and word processor, prepares letters, reports, flyers, etc.
Collates and records statistical data.
Collects and counts cash; issues and records receipts and prepares bank deposits.
Maintains petty cash accounts.
Calls in orders to food vendors and other suppliers.
Assists in maintaining inventory of food and supplies.
Provides staff coverage on participant trips.
Staff "Cooling Centers" or other necessary responses for older adult center members when ordered by City funders; may require working extended hours during the week or weekends.
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High School graduate, two years college or AA Degree preferred.
Knowledge of, or willing to learn, Kashrut.
Prior group leadership experience.
Good writing/ record-keeping skills and the ability to read, write, speak and understand English.
May require heavy lifting including setting up tables, moving chairs, and other room set-ups for programs; climbing stairs may be required.
May be required to work evenings and/ or weekends.
Knowledge of Yiddish/ Russian/ Spanish/ Patois may be helpful.
Understanding and appreciation of the roles of race, religion, ethnicity, sexual preference, and individual values as they relate to serving clients and families.
