Job Summary:
The Safety Specialist helps ensure the safety of all employees, guests, customers, and clients. Work will be a majority of administrative duties, however, will also include on-site time at various operating bases to help identify and correct safety issues, follow up on safety-related incidents, and conduct audits/evaluations to ensure regulatory compliance. The Safety Specialist will interact with internal and external customers and team member to assist in the development, maintenance, and compliance monitoring of Environmental, Health, and Safety programs.
Core Schedule:
- Core schedule will be Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
- On call or evening/weekend/holiday hours may be required for various incidents, events, and initiatives.
You would be responsible for:
- Conducts surveys, evaluations, inspections, and investigations of safety related incidents and activities as directed
- Facilitates identification of safety and environmental risks and promotes reduction or elimination of potential accidents, occupational injuries, illnesses, deaths and safety-related financial losses
- Management of Workers Compensation incident management, claims reporting and communication process and OSHA recordable/reportable events
- Assists with root cause analysis and recommends corrective action where hazards exist
- Assist in maintaining accident and incident records, files, and reports
- Communicates effectively with contacts within and outside of own department and may occasionally have responsibility for communicating with parties external to the organization (e.g., customers, vendors, auditors, and regulatory agencies)
- Provide administrative support including maintaining all departmental files, records, and publications
- Provide written reports for ground / aviation safety matters
- When needed, perform duties as an active member of the emergency response team by coordinating responder functions
- Maintaining an effective relationship with employees, management, and external vendors and auditors that ensures ease of communication related to safety issues
- Maintain the Company's safety reporting database and user accesses
- Maintains the air carrier safety reporting database, analyzes and evaluates statistical trends, and assists in preparing monthly and quarterly reports.
- Evaluate, analyze, and process safety reports submitted through company hazard reporting programs (ASAP/MSAP/HazRep), mandatory company event reports, and general safety feedback reports
- Manage company MSAP program (Maintenance Aviation Safety Action Program) and Hazard Reporting
- Responsible for the management of GRAT for ground safety, line service, and maintenance operations
- Participate in ASAP/MSAP/GRAT ERC meetings; keeps agendas and meeting minutes
- Actively research and analyze industry safety data to identify trends to assist in safety investigations
- Track safety recommendations and corrective actions to ensure that follow-up actions have been taken that are effective. Determine if the actions have been effective and if not, make recommendations for additional changes or corrective action
- Develop and maintain written safety programs and procedures to ensure OSHA compliance and environment health and safety (EHS) standards with primary focus on aviation
- Responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring company EHS programs and policies to ensure compliance with federal, state and local environmental health and safety regulations
- Manage site-specific internal safety audits and inspections of other safety related equipment
- Promotes EHS awareness and foster this awareness throughout the company, project, or office
- Facilitates identification of safety and environmental risks and promotes reduction or elimination of potential accidents, occupational injuries, illnesses, deaths, and safety-related financial losses
- Other responsibilities and duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
- 3-5 years’ experience in General Industry safety role. Additional aviation safety experience strongly preferred
- Bachelor's degree in safety or related field, or relevant work experience
- Knowledgeable of OSHA General Industry standard 1910
- OSHA 15/30 or 45-hour certification a plus
- Proficient knowledge in the technical field of aviation safety and accident prevention and experience in use of FAA, NTSB, or ICAO documentation is preferred
- Familiarity with Aviation Safety Action Programs (ASAP) and Maintenance Aviation Safety Action Programs (MSAP) preferred
- Working knowledge of Aviation Safety Management Systems (SMS) preferred
- Must possess a valid state Driver's License
- Ability to travel up to 50% of the time
- Must be able to work independently and use independent discretion and judgment
- Detail oriented characteristics with an ability to prioritize multiple objectives in a dynamic environment with constantly shifting priorities
- Able to read and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulations with a working knowledge of applicable Federal Aviation Regulations
- Proficient computer skills with working knowledge of MS Office, Excel and Computer databases
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
- Experience and/or education in safety investigations
