JES TECH is Hiring a Part-Time Spaceflight Mission Operations Pool (NASA-JSC) Near Houston, TX

Description

JES Tech is looking for a Part-Time Spaceflight Mission Operations Pool to support spaceflight analog missions conducted at JSC. The missions simulate spaceflight journeys for deep space exploration. This position staffs the Mission Control Center (MCC) to provide real-time console support to) MCC console positions. The Ops Pool members are trained to handle and respond to crewmember communications, understand daily crew tasks, and troubleshoot various anomalies that occur during the missions. The Ops Pool members participate in a variety of pre-mission preparation and post mission closeout activities.

This position is a member of a pool of part-time workers who provide console support on an as-needed basis when missions are scheduled. In-mission operations require shift work throughout each mission. Pre-mission and post-mission operations require working during regular business hours.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  •  Responsible for compliance with Safety, Health and Environmental plan; must be committed to a high standard of safety and be willing and able to comply with all safety laws and all of the Company's safety policies and rules and must be willing to report safety violations and potential safety violations to appropriate supervisory or management personnel.
  • Responsible for compliance with the Quality Assurance Plan, policies and procedures.
  • Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance level as determined by the Company
  • Responsible for completing all assigned training.
  • Successfully complete the Ground Support Personnel (GSP) training program.
  • Serve as a console operator as the primary point-of-contact for voice communication with the crew, coordinating any crew messages relating to science or operational activities, monitoring the overall habitat facility status and assessing impacts to mission operations, serving as the point of contact for operational safety concerns, coordinating with on-call personnel to resolve facility issues, monitoring timeline execution and updating the daily status reports, coordinating off-nominal issues, and coordinating the implementation of the stressor plan.
  • Serve as a console operator monitoring Principal Investigator (PI) experiment and operational activities for impacts to timeline and/or stressor plan, coordinating anomaly resolution with operations and other personnel, coordinating with the Operations
  • Lead and/or Campaign Lead to resolve timeline issues or Off-Nominal Situation (ONS) reports, contributing inputs to the Daily status reports for all mission activities, supporting mission day planning/re-planning, reviewing modifications to PI science operations, coordinating with the Complement Scientist and PIs as necessary, reviewing and providing input to real-time operations products (including procedure changes), and providing inputs to crew message and status reports. Reports science accomplishments and degree of success for experiment sessions and operations activities.
  • Maintain accurate log of all timeline activities and off-nominal events.
  • Coordinates with the Operations Lead to resolve off-nominal issues. 
  • Activates on-call positions as needed.
  • Pre and post-mission activities include assisting with tasks related to crew training and mission readiness. Example tasks include but are not limited to making kits for mission consumables, assembling crew binders, updating documentation and checklists, and other tasks as determined by the Ops Lead.

Requirements

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Required:

  • B.S. degree in science or related degree (other degrees considered with relevant experience). Or one- year console support relevant experience will be considered.

Desired:

  • Previous experience with NASA or NASA mission operations.

SKILLS/TRAINING

Required:

  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills and problem-solving skills.

Desired:

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks quickly.
  • Basic knowledge and ability to set-up and/or troubleshoot AV systems and Computer IT interfaces and peripherals.

U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency and the ability to successfully obtain a Public Trust Security Clearance is required.
