    MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN
    40 hours/week – Year Round Employment

    Position begins Monday, June 4, 2018
    Position is split shift 12:30m - 9pm daily (some flexibility possible in summer)
    Purpose: The job of the Maintenance Technician is done for the purpose/s of assisting in maintaining facilities for students, staff, and public in a safe operating condition; maintaining a preventive maintenance program; and resolving immediate operational and/or safety concerns.
    Essential Qualities:High degree of mechanical aptitude, problem solving skills, team player, energetic, motivated and the desire to work hard.
    Credentials:Valid Michigan Driver's License.High School Diploma or GED (current employees excepted).
    Essential Functions:
    • Assists in the repair and/or installation of various items, systems and/or components as may be required (e.g. broken windows, roofs, building structures, floors, hand rails, stairs, lighting systems, HVAC units, electrical units/service (120/240/480), plumbing/sewer systems, metal fabrication, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring that items are available and in safe working condition.
    • Assists other grounds and maintenance personnel for the purpose of supporting them in completion of their work activities.
    • Assists with painting tasks as directed for the purpose of maintaining attractive facilities and minimizing damage.
    • Cleans and performs minor repairs of gutters, drains and scuppers for the purpose of ensuring proper operation and adequate drainage.
    • Installs system component parts, classroom and office equipment and facility components as may be required for the purpose of maintaining facilities in a safe, comfortable and operating condition.
    • Maintains tools and/or equipment for the purpose of ensuring the availability of equipment in safe operating condition.
    • Requests equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of required items.
    • Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
    • Performs grounds related functions as may be required for the purpose of preserving grounds in a healthy, attractive and safe condition.
    Job Requirements:
    • SKILLS are required to perform multiple, non-technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Desired SKILLS include welding, carpentry, small engine repair, electrical, plumbing, HVAC and pool maintenance.
    • KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read and follow instructions; and understand multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: methods, practices, tools, and materials used in building maintenance and repair specialties.
    • On call availability for emergencies 24/7 and weekend availability for snow removal.
    • Regular attendance is a mandatory condition of employment.
    • Ability to perform physical functions of job including heavy lifting as necessary.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor.
