Jefferson County, WA Public Works Department is seeking a full-time Solid Waste Operator.

This position works at the Transfer Station just outside Port Townsend and duties include operating various equipment such as a loader, tractor trailer and knuckle boom crane, maintaining equipment, directing customers and working in the scale house. Job requires physical labor up to 10 hours/day, outdoors, in varying weather conditions.

Minimum Qualifications

Individual needs to be able to perform this job successfully in each essential duty. The requirements are listed on the attached and are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

Education and/or Experience

Applicants must possess a high school diploma/GED with 2 years related experience in heavy equipment/tractor trailer operation and/or facility maintenance. A valid WA State Commercial Driver License Class A is preferred but training may be provided depending on equipment operation experience and the candidate’s ability to obtain one within one year of employment.

Work Week

Monday – Friday or Tuesday – Saturday. Work shift is 7:30 AM – 6:00 PM with a 30-minute lunch.

Compensation

Full time/40 hours a week. Teamsters Grade A4-D, A4-E, or A4-F position. Full wage range $21.47 to $31.02 per hour. Typical starting pay is $21.47 to $24.84 depending on experience. Full medical benefits, including dental and vision. Retirement provided through Washington State Department of Retirement Services. Plus 12 days of vacation based on hours worked, 11 paid holidays, sick leave, and bereavement leave.
