ABOUT THE SCHOOL/DEPARTMENT

Prospect Valley is a warm and wonderful K through 5th grade neighborhood school serving approximately 440 students, with 60% choice enrollment. We have a focus on helping all students grow and develop their full potential through rigorous academics, strong arts, physical education and enrichment programs, as well as supporting social-emotional development. We are the proud recipients of the 2014 and 2017 Governors Distinguished Improvement Award. Our staff is talented, dedicated and parents appreciate our welcoming environment and caring culture.

We have high behavioral expectations and are a PBIS school with structures that honor and reinforce our core values and positive behavior. We systemically teach the Second Step curriculum to help our students successfully acquire social/emotional skills.

We support a strong and dynamic GT program with students currently creating robotic hands, researching and creating tiny houses, creating experiments on flotation and buoyancy, building projects on sustainable energy systems and creating their own adventure stories.

RESPONSIBILITIES

SUMMARY Develop, implement, and support individualized practices for achieving learning outcomes for students with significant social/behavioral needs, based on the requirements of IDEIA. Utilize evidence-based best practice and rely on frequent progress monitoring for programming adjustments. Take a leadership role in collaboratively problem solving interventions for students. An essential part of this position is to effectively organize and coordinate the responsibilities of multiple adults in the educational environment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES may include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Design, implement and evaluate structured instructional and behavioral management programs for individual students.

Provide educational opportunities, which are conducive to learning and appropriate to the interests and the emotional/development level of students.

Incorporate knowledge of child development (to include language development), in instructional and affective program.

Plan and implement appropriate affective and social skill development programs.

Cooperate with other staff members in planning instructional goals, objectives and methods for students. (Individual Education Plans).

Facilitate transitional and integration programs through consultation and collaboration.

Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents.

Maintain records of each student's instructional and behavioral management programs, in collaboration with other program staff.

Participate in reviews, staffing and recommendations for change of program of assigned students. Evaluate student progress on a regular basis.

Maintain files and data and prepare necessary reports as requested.

Provide vocational training and work cooperatively with vocational rehabilitation and vocational education as appropriate.

Utilize technological resources in instructional programming.

Train and supervise classroom paraprofessionals and volunteers.

Participate in those professional growth in-services and academic college credit courses, which will increase the teacher's professional expertise.

Complies with Special Education and district policies and procedures (e.g. Medicaid billing, accident reporting).

Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: Hold valid Colorado teaching license with Special Education Generalist endorsement.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EQUIPMENT Minimum practicum experience at age/grade level with - Affective Needs students. Training emphasis in LD/PC preferred. Training and experience in the use of behavior methodology, psycho-educational teaching techniques and behavior analysis. Knowledge and implementation of cognitive approaches to social skill development and problem solving. Training and experience in educational assessment and prescriptive teaching. Demonstrated skills in working collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team; facilitating integration/transition activities; consulting with professional staff and parents; and communicating effectively with outside agencies. Training and experience in coordination of inclusion of students into regular classrooms.
