Communicator:
Position Overview: The primary objective of EMS is to provide safe and compassionate ambulance and medical transportation, while preserving patients' dignity and ensuring community safety. The communicator works closely with the Communications Supervisor, Assistant Chiefs, Chief and Management.
EMS Communicators have a vital role on the front line of ambulance service as one of the first links in the emergency response chain. The Communicator receives and prioritizes emergency and non-emergency telephone calls from the public. Processes the information using a computer aided dispatch (CAD) system and works under pressure.

EMS operations occur 24 hours a day, 365 days a year in all weather conditions. As an EMS crewmember, one must be mentally, physically and emotionally prepared to conform to a wide variety of patient types, behaviors and situations. Safety, professionalism and compassion are three critical personal traits necessary to be successful in the EMS operations. Communications is a high stress multifaceted, multitasking position with high demands.
