James Coffee is a specialty coffee shop with three outlets in San Diego. Our bakery will supply all James Coffee outlets with pastry and viennoiserie items.

The Head Baker is in charge of every aspect of the bakery operations and must have a positive and professional attitude and philosophy. This key leader will assist in the hiring process, develop talent, train, and hold pastry team staff accountable to James Coffees standards.

*Early morning shifts are required, no overnight shifts.*

*This position is available as full-time or open to be split into two part-time positions.*

**Responsibilities**

- Act with integrity, honesty and knowledge to promote the culture, values, and mission of James Coffee.

- Arrive at the kitchen floor ready to work at the time of the start of the shift

- Understand all aspects of the pastry and viennoiserie menus and how to execute each component

- Properly train, educate, and direct incoming pastry team members.

- Help other pastry team members when needed.

- Maintains hands-on knowledge of all bakery roles and steps in regularly to perform various responsibilities as business needs dictate.

- Work in a thoughtful manner when executing any and all tasks

**Requirements**

- Passionate about food, pastry and creating high-quality products.

- 2 years of professional baking experience preferred.

- Existing Food Handler's Certification or certification within 30 days post-hire.

- Acts with integrity, honesty and knowledge.

- Be able to communicate and understand English.

- Effective oral communication skills and the ability to work as a team player.

- Must be well-groomed, maintain good hygiene

- Possess excellent basic math skills.

- Be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time (minimum of 8 hours a day).

- Able to reach, bend, stoop and frequently lift up to 50 pounds

- Be able to safely lift and easily maneuver trays of food frequently weighing up to 40 pounds

Please note: Must be able to stand and/or walk for an entire shift. Must be trainable on operating various equipment safely to perform job duties. Constantly stoops, kneels, crouches to reach product on the floor or under tables. Job performance will be appraised after one month, three months and bi-annually thereafter.
