You will spend the first three weeks in a classroom setting learning about the aviation industry. During the remainder of the internship, you will work on project assignments with JD’s five major Practice Areas.

Position Description Summary:

Our 12-week paid Summer Internship Program offers college students the opportunity to fully immerse themselves in the day-to-day operations of a leading national aviation consulting firm. Students participating in the program will build upon their current skillset and work in a collaborative environment. You will join teams from JD’s practice areas intent on delivering excellence to existing and potential clients. This is a full-time role at our headquarters in Ypsilanti, MI.

You will spend your first three weeks in a classroom setting learning about aviation and the type of projects JD does for its clients. For the remaining weeks, you will work with project managers and consultants both virtually and in-person on wide ranging tasks.

Position Responsibilities:

Here is what to expect during your 12-week internship:

  • Mentorship and training through one-on-one meetups and team meetings to build your writing, analytical, and presentation skills as you learn about the aviation industry.
  • The opportunity to work with project managers from JD’s five major practice areas (Planning, Capital Programs and Infrastructure, Operational Services, Airline Services, and Program Management/Construction Management).
  • Consulting 101 - How to assess and address a client’s needs.
  • Build and improve your presentation skills!
  • Fun social events with JD team members as you build out your professional network.
  • Ability to represent JD professionally in all work situations.
  • Relevant work experience, including other internships, is not required but is a plus.
Required Qualifications:
  • Candidates must be pursuing a bachelor's degree from an accredited program in aviation management, construction management, urban planning, architecture, engineering, quantitative analysis, mathematics, computer sciences, computer-aided design, GIS (geographic information systems) or other related fields.
  • Successful completion of the third year of college is preferred such that candidates are preparing to enter their senior year of studies. Recent graduates will also be considered.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suites - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Proficiency in specific software is a plus (Adobe, Autodesk, CAD, professional graphical production, financial analysis software, GIS, etc.)
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Organized with excellent attention to detail.
  • Solid time management skills with ability to meet deadlines.
  • Desire and ability to work as part of a team.
  • Be able to work up to 40 hours per week throughout the summer internship.
  • Ability to represent JD professionally in all work situations.
  • Relevant work experience, including other internships, is not required but is a plus.

Location & Working Conditions:

The internship position is based at JD’s headquarters in Ypsilanti, MI. The first few weeks will be in a classroom environment. Work is conducted primarily in an office setting alongside teammates in person and virtually. Periodic weekend or evening work may be required. Physical Demands: 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit for long periods of time, bend, use hands to manipulate (type), talk and hear; walk; sit, and lift or move no more than ten (10) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral visions, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Mental Demands:

Reporting Relationships:

Interns report to a JD supervisor designated to manage the Analyst Program or other senior manager identified during the hiring process or performance review process.

Supervisory Responsibility: 

None.
