We have an exciting opportunity for a Summer 2024 - Hypervelocity Impact Internto join the team with our Science & Exploration Division.

This is a temporary role not to exceed 13 weeks.

The Hypervelocity Impact Intern will: 

  • WorkcloselywithJETSIIHypervelocityImpactTechnology(HVIT)GroupcolleaguesandNASAcustomerstoexecute Micrometeoroid/Orbital Debris (MMOD) risk analysis and hypervelocity impact testingrequirements
  • Perform spacecraft MMOD impact riskassessment
  • Research spacecraft geometry, material, and operating parameters to support riskanalysis
  • Support hypervelocity impact testingactivities
  • Support impact simulationstudies
  • Support development of impact testdatabase
  • Present results to technical team in both written and verbalformats
  • Support other activities under the HVIT project asneeded

Here’s what you’ll need:

Requisition Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a degree in Engineering or a closely related technical field from an accrediteduniversity
  • Completed at least 45 credit hours.
  • Minimum of 2.8 GPA.
  • Familiar with basic engineering principles and materialproperties
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office to generate presentations andreports
  • Demonstration of strong communicationskills
  • Must work well in a teamenvironment
  • Must be detailoriented

Requisition Preferences: 

  • Experience working as part of an interdisciplinaryteam
  • Demonstration of creativity, conception, vision, andinitiative

Essential Functions

Work Environment

Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.

Physical Requirements

Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time). May require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time).

Equipment and Machines

Standard office equipment (PC, telephone, printer, etc.).

Attendance

Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.

Other Essential Functions

Professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation. Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
