Your Impact:

Our People & Places Solutions business – reinforces our drive to improve the lives of people everywhere and epitomizes the "why" of what we do – the tremendous positive impact and value our solutions bring to our communities and society as a whole. From facilities delivering life-saving therapies and ensuring clean water to enabling the connection of people through all modes of transportation and providing access to technology – we're integrating a multitude of these solution elements to build the smart environments of tomorrow. Start your Jacobs career with a company that inspires and empowers you to deliver your best work so you can evolve, grow and succeed – today and into tomorrow.

At Jacobs, we’re not just building structures, we’re helping our clients innovate and grow by designing, engineering, and executing the construction of their state-of-the-art facilities that are changing our world.

Join our team in Portland, OR as an Entry-Level Structural Engineer and get excited about working on projects that enable the heart of our clients’ business. You’ll have the chance to work on projects including the design of new structures as well as existing structural upgrades. With mentorship and guidance from our Professional Engineers and technical experts, you will grow to become an integral member of the design team, counted on to assist in the performance of structural analysis and design for our projects. You will need strong communication and interpersonal skills as you work closely with Project Managers, Professional Engineers, and Designers across different disciplines. As part of this team, you will perform increasingly complex calculations and analysis as the structural design is developed, and learn to work with our Designers to get the structural requirements communicated on paper and in the model.

In this role, you will be working to develop a solid foundation in the fundamentals of Structural Engineering, gaining experience in multiple subject areas, and learning how Structural design integrates with and impacts other disciplines. You will be given as much responsibility as you are willing to take, and your opportunities for career growth will be limited only by your own motivation, capabilities, and attitude.

The ideal candidate will exhibit a high level of attention to detail and quality control, being committed to checking their own work and reaching out to peers and seniors for guidance when questions arise. As a member of our team, you must be ready for the responsibility of managing your own workload. Meeting commitments and taking ownership of your portion of the structural scope, reliably working to meet schedule, budget, and quality requirements. You may be given tasks with ill-defined conditions of satisfaction; in which case you will be expected to take the initiative to determine what is needed to meet the project and client needs--recognizing when help is needed.

Bring your desire to develop your engineering knowledge and professional judgment, and your exceptional organizational skills and we’ll help you grow, and pursue what drives you – so we can make big impacts on the world, together.

At Jacobs, we’re partnering across the globe to create the best project outcomes by maximizing the design, digital technology, and support capabilities of our Global Integrated Delivery (GID) teammates. By joining Jacobs, you’ll commit to supporting and engaging with these teams, as we work to build a company like no other.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering, with a clear interest in Structural Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
  • Engineer in Training (EIT) Certification or ability to obtain prior to start
  • Excellent communication (both written and verbal), problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
  • This position is considered project site/hybrid and may require you to work in the local office, at a project site, or from your home (within approximately 50 miles of site)
  • Internet service with a MINIMUM speed of 25Mbps download/10Mbps upload as required to effectively meet project performance requirements (higher internet speed is recommended)
  • Sponsorship is not available for this position

Ideally, you will have

  • MS degree in Civil or Structural Engineering with an emphasis on Structural Engineering
  • Previous relevant internship experience in Structural Engineering, preferably with experience analyzing traditional steel and concrete structures.
  • Experience with STAAD, Navisworks, and Bluebeam
  • Familiarity with US building codes including IBC, ASCE 7, ACI, and AISC
All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability or protected veteran status.

At Jacobs, we’re challenging today to reinvent tomorrow by solving the world’s most critical problems for thriving cities, resilient environments, mission-critical outcomes, operational advancement, scientific discovery and cutting-edge manufacturing, turning abstract ideas into realities that transform the world for good. With $15 billion in revenue and a talent force of more than 60,000, Jacobs provides a full spectrum of professional services including consulting, technical, scientific and project delivery for the government and private sector.
