Job Summary

Jacksonville University, ranked as a Best Regional University by US News & World Report, invites applicants for a full-time, twelve-month, tenure accruing position for Director of Clinical Education (DCE) in the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program. The successful candidate will organize and manage clinical rotations for the DPT program within the Brooks Rehabilitation College of Healthcare Sciences (BRCHS). In addition, the successful candidate will participate in faculty activities (teaching, service, and potentially research), as well as being responsible for the coordination of clinical faculty and staff professional development in the DPT program.

In addition to typical DCE responsibilities listed below, the DCE will also be required to be a part of the development process for the new DPT program. This includes, but is not limited to, establishing clinical education policies and procedures that align with and support JU's vision for the DPT program. The DPT program has an established partnership with Brooks Rehabilitation which will provide opportunities for innovative clinical education strategies, however partnerships with additional clinical sites will be needed to fully support optimal student learning within the program. The DCE will have an integral role in the development of the curriculum and structure of the DPT program.

The DCE is responsible for coordinating and overseeing the clinical education portion of the DPT curriculum. This is a faculty position with teaching, scholarship, advisement, and service responsibilities in addition to the administration of clinical education. This position requires significant contact with students, outside constituents, and professional consortiums.

This is a full-time, twelve-month, tenure-accruing Assistant or Associate Professor position in Physical Therapy

Duties/Responsibilities

* Reports to the DPT Program Director

* Establishes goals and objectives for the programs' clinical rotations

* Plans, coordinates, facilitates, administers, monitors and evaluates clinical education activities, including assignment of clinical sites, on behalf of the academic program and in coordination with academic and clinical faculty

* Fosters communication with clinical faculty and staff through meetings and/or consultation. Acts as a liaison between the academic institution and the clinical sites

* Coordinates the evaluation of students, clinical faculty, and clinical sites. Monitors student progress and assesses performance. Provides guidance and support as required to problem solve and discuss pertinent issues with student(s), clinical instructors (CIs), and/or Center Coordinators of Clinical Education (CCCEs)

* Performs academic responsibilities consistent with the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE), and with institutional policy. Manages administrative responsibilities consistent with CAPTE, federal/state regulations, institutional policy, and practice setting requirements.

* Ensures that feedback from evaluations is provided in a timely manner and action plans are written to address deficiencies

* Develops policy and procedures for clinical site selection, utilization, and assessment (e.g., APTA Guidelines for Clinical Education)

* Maintains records for completion of clinical competencies and evaluations associated with clinical rotations

* Establishes and maintains appropriate clinical affiliate agreement with clinical sites to meet the educational needs of students and the academic program, the philosophy and outcomes of the program, and evaluative criteria set by CAPTE

* Assists with coordinating community service programs

* Identifies and utilizes university resources to assist with meeting clinical education program needs or to effectively resolve issues

* Makes recommendations regarding curriculum to faculty based on feedback from affiliates and analysis of clinical education data collected

* Provides clinical education site development opportunities through ongoing evaluation and assessment of strengths and areas needing further development or action (e.g., in service training, discontinue student placements)

* Teaches courses in the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program that are consistent with area(s) of expertise

* Promotes evidence-based practice

* Represents DPT program at community events and helps to educate the University and larger communities regarding the physical therapy profession

* Serves on Departmental, College, and University Committees

* Maintains an active scholarly agenda that is commensurate with CAPTE and University requirements

* Participates in the programs or Department's clinical practice

* Maintains knowledge of current trends in health care and its effect on clinical

* Education and apprises clinical educators and faculty of any changing trends

* Performs other duties as assigned by the Program Director and/or Associate Dean and Dean

Required Skills/Abilities

* Instruct, professionally communicate, and demonstrate skills techniques to healthcare students

* Self-directed, have computer proficiency that includes the knowledge necessary to develop case scenarios and simulations

* Excellent written and oral communication skills

* Ability to evaluate students in the teaching/learning lab environment

* Knowledge of effective teaching techniques and curriculum development

* Skill in facilitating development of student problem solving skills

* Ability to design effective learning activities for students

* Ability to work collaboratively with faculty and staff

* Role model professionalism and maintain professional skills lab environment for students

Education, Certificates, Licenses, & Experience

* Graduate of an accredited physical therapy program

* Terminal doctoral degree required (PhD, EdD, DBA, DHSc, etc)

* Minimum of 5 years of post-licensure clinical practice required

* Minimum of 3 years of clinical practice as SCCE or CI in Physical Therapy or a minimum of 3 years of experience in teaching in a Physical Therapy program required

* Eligible for licensure as a physical therapist in the state of Florida required

* Experience with curriculum development and administration preferred

* Experience in scholarly activity preferred

Physical Requirements

* Manual dexterity to efficiently operate a computer keyboard and scientific equipment

* Near vision sufficient to read written communications and computer display screens

* Adequate hearing to communicate effectively in person and by phone

* Able to lift and turn objects up to 90 lbs. without physical restrictions
