Qualifications

  • College Degree required
  • Knowledge of school attendance/dropout prevention with short and long range planning techniques applicable to attendance/dropout prevention
  • Knowledge of providing leadership to the program while working under general supervision; compile, verify data and prepare reports; analyze situations accurately and recommend affective courses of action
  • Knowledge of computers, related technology, and software
  • Good communication skills
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license with good driving record and be insurable by district insurance carrier

Job Goal

Supervise the implementation of the Dropout Prevention Program in the JPSD schools.

Essential Functions

  • Assists in the development of an intervention plan for each identified student for the purpose of ensuring students’ success in meeting graduation requirements
  • Collaborates with other district and building level personnel and administration for the purpose of serving as a liaison and resource to facilitate the growth and development of dropout prevention and recovery support
  • Coordinates and assists school support personnel to work with community agencies for the purpose of meeting students’ needs in a consistent and effective manner
  • Coordinates services provided that are designed to assist students using the principles of Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS) for the purpose of enabling students to successfully complete high school
  • Directs services designed to assist students for the purpose of helping students successfully complete high school
  • Establishes and maintains communication links with community agencies that serve homeless, neglected delinquent and disengaged students for the purpose of re-engaging affected students
  • Evaluates situations (e.g. child abuse, pregnancy, neglect, drug abuse, law violations, gang affiliation, etc.) for the purpose of making appropriate recommendations requiring processional judgments
  • Facilitates and coordinates the efforts of a community-based advisory group for the purpose of providing an avenue for discussion that will help with decision-making in effectively servicing the needs of individual students
  • Facilitates positive, appropriate, and healthy connections between students and adults within the school setting and the community for the purpose of providing a smooth transition into re-engagement services and maintaining open communication during services
  • Facilitates various meetings (e.g. parent and student workshops, community and education meetings, grant planning, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring that outcomes for individual students achieve district and/or state objectives
  • Identifies students with special education needs who have dropped out or at risk of dropping out of school for the purpose of providing assistance to help students meet academic requirements for graduation
  • Maintains accurate records (confidential and non-confidential) of all contacts with various client groups, support personnel, and agencies in the community for the purpose of providing an up-to-date reference and audit trail of services provided
  • Monitors drop out information required by the Mississippi State Department of Education for the purpose of ensuring compliance with state legal reporting requirements
  • Research, evaluates, and presents best practices in dropout prevention and recovery strategies for the purpose of re-engaging student dropouts
  • Serves as a bridge to connect students, parents, and teachers for the purpose of monitoring and communicating student progress
  • Works with students, staff, parents and guardians for the purpose of evaluating situations, solving problems, resolving conflicts, referring to appropriate professionals, and enhancing student success in school
  • Performs other related duties as requested or assigned
