Description

The CNA/Medical Nail Technician assists the nurse and Podiatrist in providing patient care and nail care treatments to podiatry patients in the Rural Health Clinic. The CNA does not have to have previous nail experience but experience is a plus. This is a full-time job with benefits.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provides patient care under the direct supervision of the nurse in a competent and proficient manner. Assists nurse in identifying and responding to patient needs.
• Assist nurse in getting rooms ready for patient care.
• Assist nurse with vital signs if needed.
• Provides patient nail care under the direct supervision of the Podiatrist.
• Seats patients getting them ready for exam or consult with Podiatrist.
• Checks patient’s pedal pulses and current medication.
• Debrides and thin toenails as directed.
• Prepares and cleans area in-between patients.
• Ensures equipment is sterile before use.
• Schedules follow-up appointments for patients. 
• Communicates appropriately and clearly with supervisor, co-workers, and physicians.
• Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity.
• Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.
• Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly ensuring equipment is clean and in working order.
• Adheres to dress code; appearance is neat and clean; wears identification badge at all times.
• Maintains regulatory requirements, including all federal, state, local regulations, and accrediting organization standards.
• Maintains and ensures patient confidentiality at all times; follows HIPAA regulations.
• Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work within designated time frames.
• Attends staff meetings as scheduled.
• Ensures that annual education is completed on time.
• Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.
• Performs any other duties as assigned by supervisor.
• Adheres to all JPH policies and procedures.

Requirements

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:

• High School graduate or equivalent.
• Minimum of (6) months to (1) year of related work experience as a CNA. 
• Successful completion of medical nail technician course/program preferred or
• Minimum of one (1) year of related work experience under a licensed Podiatrist.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:

• Current CNA certification with the state of Louisiana required.
• Current MNT certification preferred.
• Current BLS certification required.
• ACLS and PALS preferred.

LANGUAGE and PROFICIENCY REQUIREMENTS:

• Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. 
• Strong written and verbal skills.

SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

• Ability to work alone or with minimal supervision.
• Understanding of sanitation and sterilization standards.
• Ability to work under and handle stress in an appropriate manner.
• Ability to work long hours between breaks and meals, if necessary.
• Basic computer competency.

MACHINERY/TOOLS/EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS:

• Ability to operate and troubleshoot telephone, fax machine, copy machine, computer, and printer.
