Summary

Mammographer 1 is a radiologic technologist licensed by the state of Florida in General Radiography and ARRT certification in Mammography. Meets all Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) initial qualifications, and FDA requirements for mammography personnel. This technologist performs Digital and 3D Breast Tomosythesis Mammography as well as breast procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Validate and be accountable to all ancillary functions associated with breast imaging and the post processing of all reports, letters, scheduling, patient call-backs and process improvement associated with mammography. Utilizes appropriate HIS/RIS Computer System functions and follows through to record complete or incomplete procedures.
  • Reviews all previous imaging studies and medical history prior to imaging the patient. Makes any necessary changes to the patient's previous history and effectively communicates changes to the Radiologist as needed. Responsible for adherence to the ACR, the Joint Commission and other regulatory agencies with regard to ongoing daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly Quality Control (QC) measures and documentation to meet compliance requirements of the x-ray system, workstations, PACS (as related to mammography), mammography reporting system /information system, and CAD.
  • Images all patients according to departmental imaging protocol. This requires adjustments to the equipment and using appropriate angles and heights, correct size mammography paddles, positioning techniques for mobile and non-mobile patients. Applying ACR Image wisely guidelines and reduces the number of repeat images taken on patients.
  • Troubleshoots technical factors, on an individual patient basis, to produce images that are of proper resolution, density and contrast to ensure quality images. Utilizes automatic exposure control in an effort to minimize radiation dose when appropriate. Complies with all safety rules and regulations, departmental and hospital rules and protocol for all procedures.
  • Assists patients who prefer their spoken language by utilizing the language line during exams. Follows unit specific infection control standards. Performs screening and diagnostic mammography, as well as stereotactic breast biopsies and breast needle localizations.
  • Works on the mobile mammography unit as needed performing screening mammograms. Demonstrates behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise). Performs all other related job duties as assigned.

Experience

Generally requires 1 to 3 years of related experience. Prior experience as a mammographer and ARRT (M) highly preferable.

Education

High School diploma is required. Associate's and/or Bachelor's degree is preferred.

Credentials

Valid Florida state license as a Radiology Technologist required. ARRT Mammography certification is required within 1 year of employment. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) and any additional applicable life support certification for Healthcare Providers is required upon hire with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment.
