Summary

The Lead Cardiac Cath EP tech 2 performs skilled and complex Cardiovascular Interventional technical work (including scrubbing procedures) to all adult and pediatric age populations in the CATH/EP Lab. Specializing in the care of patients undergoing PTCA, stent placement, IABP placement, biopsies, EP device placements and ablations. Thereby, assisting physicians in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac and peripheral vascular disease. In addition, primary duties are to observe the patient's physiological signs and alert the physician of Clinical changes, and to operate complicated radiographic and physiologic monitoring equipment with the ability to trouble-shoot and make simple repairs as needed. With increased experience, expectation to provide resources and mentoring to new team members and/or providing supervision in the absence of the area manager, while exhibiting enhanced growth, accountability, and enhanced technical skills.

Responsibilities

Assist with Diagnostic Cardiac Catheterization procedure on patients with known and suspected congenital and acquired cardiac and peripheral vascular disease, including carotid procedures. Assist with inventory management, procurement and supply chain functions of the Cath Lab. Performs vendor & products evaluations as needed by JHS on an ongoing basis. Person of contact for meeting with Physicians and the vendors to trial new equipment and supplies based on patient care need. Identify cost savings opportunities for the health system, work closely with the Department Director and the procurement team in this initiatives. Prepare value analysis, bid waiver and service contract documents as needed for procurement processes. Provide training and mentorship to other Cath Lab techsWill be the contact person for organizing staff education and in-service initiatives for the adult and Pediatric Cardiac Cath Program Assist with interventional procedures which may include and not limited to any of the following: PTCA, stent prep and placement, Impella Cath Insertion, IABP placement and operation, Pericardialcentesis, biopsies, transseptal, ASD, PDA, Rotoblator, Laser, thrombolysis procedures(Angiojet), valvuloplasties, pulmonary stents, coils, peripheral and congenital interventions. This position will be the liaison between cath lab and other departments of the hospital for planning procedures and borrowing supplies and ensuring the charge champion is notified to ensure charges captured Assist with Electrophysiology (EP) procedures may include and not limited to the following: EP studies, implantation of pacemaker, ICD, BIV ICD, and ablations. Operation of the physiologic and radiographic equipment in a safe and efficient manner, and assisting with the in-service of physicians , and staff to the same process. Maintains high standards to achieve quality patient care and keeps critical skills current. Provides safe patient transportation, good communication and evaluation of patient status during the procedure, providing age and gender specific care, prep access site according to lab stand practice. In addition, performs EKG lead placement, blood pressure and pulse oximetry setup for hemodynamic monitoring. Assist in procedural requirements, and not limited to the following: Room Preparation and breakdown to include fluid preparation, stocking rooms(checking for expirations), radiographic hemodynamic and computer setup, room cleanup, prepares sterile procedure tray and patient sterile field appropriately for specific procedure type. This also includes the availability of supplies as noted in the physician's preference card. Maintains and observes occupational and radiation safety regulations, such as wearing badges, lead aprons, eye protection, gloves. Acquire and accurately document all pertinent patient data as required, and be complete and timely. Completes all required Quality reports as required NCDR and other reporting agencies Maintains and observes for sterility during procedure in accordance with infection control standards. Maintains a comprehensive knowledge of all supplies to appropriately assist the physician in its use during the procedure. In addition, will maintain knowledge of supply locations. Adheres to safety and infection control at all times. (such as performing TIMEOUTS).Assist in Cardiopulmonary Support. Removes arterial and venous sheaths, maintains proper hemostasis, and documentation of same, Pre-Post pulse checks, and vital signs. On-going communication/teaching to patient and/or family and support staff. Able to set up and safely operate and not limited to the following: a) EP Study and Ablation; b) TEE/Intravascular ECHO; c) Cryo-ablation /Stockert ablation generator. d) Micropace stimulator-under physician direct supervision; e) Carto mapping, Intra-Cardiac Echo (ICE), and other Cardiac Mapping devices Operates and set rates for contrast media injectors for all patients using knowledge and skills necessary to provide age specific care. Operates and makes recordings on ultrasound equipment. Takes call as scheduled, and a 30 minute response time is preferred. Operates and performs quality controls on Gem 3000, 4000, Gem-OPL, & ACT. Performs other related duties as assigned. Demonstrates behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise).

Experience

Generally requires 5 years clinical experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist, or a Registered Radiological Technologist, or as a tech in a CATH Lab arena. RCIS after 5 years of hire preferred.


Education

Graduate from a two year Cardiovascular program or an equivalent, such as a Registered Respiratory Therapist or Registered Radiological Technologist.

Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with professional composure. Ability to understand and follow instructions. Ability to exercise sound and independent judgment Knowledge and skill in use of job appropriate technology and software applications.


Credentials

Required to have and maintain BCLS, ACLS, and PALS. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) and any additional applicable life support certification for Healthcare Providers is required upon hire with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment.


Working Conditions

Physical Requirements - Job function requires extended standing or walking. Must be able to carry objects weighing 21 to 50 pounds. Able to lift or move objects weighing 51 to 100 pounds with the use of appropriate devices.
