Summary
Pharmacy Manager Hospitals plan, coordinate and supervise the pharmaceutical work of a major segment of a large and complex pharmacy department such as inpatient, outpatient, manufacturing or a small county hospital. Major responsibilities include:
•Professional direction of a staff of pharmacists
•Supporting personnel engaged in a variety of processes
•Advising the medical staff on pharmaceutical problems.
•Incumbents must exercise considerable knowledge of chemical, biological and pharmacological sciences in resolving compounding, dispensing and manufacturing problems and in advising physicians on drug characteristics, properties, therapy and usage.
•Work is performed with responsibility for accuracy, and is subject to review by a professional superior who discusses complex problems and evaluates results.
Pharmacy processes are subject to audit as required by state and federal law.
Responsibilities
With the Director:
•Establishes goals and direction for pharmacy services for a specialty area of pharmacy practice taking into account age specific needs of the patient population.
•Plans and develops new clinical services in area of responsibility with consideration to age specific needs of the patients treated.
•Allocates adequate resources commensurate with authority for assessing and improving services provided.
•Coordinates educational activities for pharmacy students, pharmacy residents/fellows, pharmacy staff, medical students/residents, nursing and other allied health professionals.
•Coordinates drug utilization activities and target drug programs assuring age specific criteria is developed.
•Participates in the credentialing process of clinical pharmacists, and may serve on Clinical Credentialing and Promotions Committee.
•Serves as a resource person for staff pharmacists, clinical pharmacists, senior clinical pharmacists, and patient care coordinator for concerns in clinical activities, education and research.
•Coordinates clinical activities of pharmacists assigned to a specific area (with the assistance of the patient care coordinator).
•Participates in multidisciplinary meetings that are relevant to clinical pharmacy services.
•Oversees the patient care coordinator assigned to support the specialty area of practice.
•Participates in the interview process for clinical pharmacist positions.
•Maintains practice involvement in area of expertise; provides limited direct clinical services; participates in research; publishes in pharmacy and medical journals; and presents at formal conferences and lectures.
•Performs senior clinical pharmacist activities as needed.
•Maintains clinical competency by attending local, national, and international continuing education programs.
•Establishes and maintains rapport with medical and nursing staff in area of practice.
•Establishes and maintains a strong network of contacts both at the local and national level.
•Performs other related duties as required.

•Performs all other related job duties as assigned.
Experience
Generally requires 5 to 7 years of related experience. Supervisory experience is required.
Education
Advanced degree in specialty is required.
Credentials
Valid Florida pharmacy license or certification as required.
