Serves as a journey maintenance worker and performs a full range of routine to complex repair and installation maintenance tasks in a number of trade areas. Diagnoses problems, sets priorities of maintenance needs, develops preventative maintenance plans, orders parts and materials. Inspects building(s) for maintenance/safety conditions. Runs computer cable. Maintains and repairs electrical heating and cooling controls and motors. Performs a variety of tasks including inspection, installation, and/or repair of various building mechanical and electrical components: plumbing, heating, air conditioning, locks, security equipment, kitchen appliance and equipment, etc. Performs a variety of construction, carpentry and building upkeep tasks related to: drywall, plaster, masonry, doors/door frames, walls/partitions, ceilings, roofs, painting, flooring repair/installation, office remodel, and furniture repair. Responsible for grounds maintenance including repair and maintenance of sidewalks, steps, asphalt; mowing, trimming, raking, leaf blowing, snow/ice removal (shovel and operation of a plow truck).
May supervise seasonal, temporary, resident, and other special program workers on maintenance and grounds activities including inmate trustees, community service workers, and other special program workers.
Operates various equipment including motor vehicle, plow truck, skid steer, back hoe, dump truck, tractor, salt pickup, and snow broom for snow and ice removal.
Must be able to accommodate a 24/7 on call schedule with other staff for building issues and snow removal.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High school graduation or equivalent with some skills training in electrical, plumbing and other building trades areas. Some college level coursework preferred.
Experience: Four years of experience in the maintenance and repair of building and mechanical systems with experience in HVAC, electrical, plumbing and carpentry.
Other Requirements: Possession of a valid Michigan Drivers License. Must be able to obtain certification in universal refrigeration and Freon transition/recovery as soon as possible within hire date. Must be able to obtain Contractor/ Supervisor certification in asbestos abatement within 12 months of hire. Must be able to obtain a State of Michigan CDL license with air break endorsement. Must be able to pass a LIEN check. Must be able to obtain Lead Hazard Awareness certification within 12 months of hire.
