Jackson County Roads & Parks Department has a unique career opportunity that will allow someone to spend time working alongside team members from both its Parks Division and Engineering Division. For the Parks Division, this team member will oversee the Greenway Program, including grant application and administration for greenway projects. Within the Engineering Division, this team member will spend their time reviewing and commenting on planning applications along county roadways, assisting with permit inquiries, and applying for grant applications.

I. Position Summary

Administers the development, coordination, planning and review of a specific program, project or service. Works independently with general supervision.

II. Examples of Essential Position Duties (The following duties represent some of the principal job duties; however, they are not all-inclusive. Other duties may be required or assigned.)

  • Administers the development, coordination, planning and implementing of a specific program, project or service including program record keeping, data collection, grant reporting, and budget monitoring.
  • Establishes short- and long-range plans, goals and objectives for assigned programs.
  • Prepares a variety of reports, correspondence, records, and summaries for program.
  • Assists groups or other agencies in the development of local partnerships to provide funding and program support.
  • Increases awareness of the program, project or service through outreach.
  • Coordinates requirements and activities such as, securing physical space needs, equipment, volunteer recruitment and training, education, outreach efforts. Develops partners to actively participate in the program, project or service.
  • Provides ongoing, general education/awareness and specific training.
  • Adheres to regulatory requirements, collective bargaining agreements, County and departmental policies and procedures, required trainings, as well as safe work practices.
  • Develops and maintains effective internal and external working relationships at all levels.
  • Has regular and reliable attendance. Overtime may be required.

III. Minimum Requirements(Performance of the essential duties of this position includes the following requirements, physical demands and/or working conditions)

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent AND four years experience in working in the specific program field; OR
  • Any combination of education and experience which provides the applicant with the desired skills, knowledge, and ability required to perform the job.”

License, Certificate or Other

Requires possession of a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record. May require specialized licenses or certifications.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Requires knowledge of specific elements including terminology, protocol, laws, ordinances, policies and procedures related to the assigned project, program or service. Ability to develop, organize and oversee projects including monitoring budgets and funding, basic record keeping, and report writing; maintain accurate records; establish procedures for accurate data collection; coordinate outreach into the community and private sectors to increase awareness of the program, project or service; use word processing software and computers; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; and, work as a team member and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Physical Demands (Performance of the essential duties of this position includes the following physical demands)

Requires sufficient hand-eye coordination to perform semi-skilled repetitive movements, such as typing, filing, data entry and/or use of calculators, ten-key adding machine or other office equipment or supplies. Typically requires climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, sitting, lifting, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions. Requires exerting up to 20 pounds frequently, 50 occasionally, of force to move objects. Minimum physical effort is required. Requires driving. May have slight exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous material and may be subject to uncomfortable working conditions including exposure to dust, noise, heat, cold or moisture.

Working Conditions (Performance of the essential duties of this position includes the following working conditions)

Work is generally performed in an office environment and may include exposure to disruptive people and communicable diseases.
