Position Overview:
An Estimator at J.L. Moore plays a key role in reviewing plans and specifications, attending pre-bid meetings, developing work scopes and invitations to bid on various projects. Project types include renovations, tenant buildouts, and new construction. The ideal candidate for the Estimator role is someone with a high level of attention to detail, positive attitude, and commitment to being an active team player.
Key Responsibilities:
· Review Project Documents: Analyze construction drawings, blueprints, specifications, and contract documents to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.
· Cost Estimation: Prepare detailed cost estimates for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor services based on project plans and specifications.
· Material and Labor Analysis: Assess cost-effectiveness of products, projects, or services, tracking actual costs relative to bids as the project develops.
· Cost Tracking: Monitor project costs throughout the construction process, comparing actual expenses to estimated costs and identifying any discrepancies.
· Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, architects, engineers, and subcontractors to gather necessary information and ensure that estimates meet project objectives.
· Bid Preparation: Prepare bid proposals and pricing documents for submission to clients, ensuring competitiveness while maintaining profitability.
· Documentation: Maintain detailed records of estimates, proposals, change orders, and other relevant documentation.
· Risk Assessment: Identify potential risks and uncertainties in project estimates and develop strategies to mitigate them.
· Continuous Improvement: Stay informed about industry trends, construction technology advancements, and regulatory changes to improve estimating processes and accuracy.
Key Requirements:
· Minimum of 3 years of experience in the commercial construction industry.
· Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening.
· A highly motivated, self-starting individual that is goal oriented.
· A high-level understanding of field take offs and estimating.
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
· Experience with Pipeline and Bluebeam software is preferred but not required.
· Excellent attention to detail with an emphasis placed on quality.
· Clear, accurate, and concise written and verbal communication skills.
· Ability to meet deadlines.
· Demonstrated abilities in planning, problem-solving, and decision making.
· Must be able to thrive in a fast-paced environment, with emphasis on teamwork, customer service, and safe working practices.
