Job Description:

Hunt Energy Network (HEN) is seeking a highly motivated, trustworthy individual with experience working independently to serve as HEN's Director of Regulatory Affairs. As more specifically detailed below, this role involves managing both regulatory compliance and advocacy. This candidate has strong analytical, writing and communication skills and is comfortable speaking in public forums, whose handshake is their commitment. This person will report to HEN's Senior VP of Regulatory and Business Development and will interact significantly with HEN Senior Management.

This individual is preferably located in Austin and able to regularly attend meetings in person at the Public Utility Commission of Texas ("PUCT") and the Electric Reliability Council of Texas ("ERCOT"). Travel to Dallas several days a month for internal meetings would be required. A flexible work schedule is possible, provided the individual can attend most regulatory meetings in person.

Responsibilities:

Primary responsibility for managing the day-to-day operations of HEN's electric regulatory department and closely collaborating and coordinating with HEN's senior regulatory team, including Sr. VP of Regulatory and Business Development and HEN's CEO. Specific duties include the following:

  • Issue Identification, Monitoring and Internal Reporting
    • Identifying and monitoring emerging regulatory issues that impact HEN's business operations, maintaining the regulatory calendar for the HEN regulatory team, and providing summary reporting to HEN Senior Management.
    • Closely collaborating and coordinating with HEN's senior regulatory team, including HEN's CEO.
  • Policy Development and Advocacy
    • Participating in regulatory proceedings before the PUCT and ERCOT, understanding the nuances of other parties' positions and Commission discussions, and advocating HEN's positions in regulatory meetings, workshops and other public forums.
    • Developing public policy positions in collaboration with the HEN Management team and drafting persuasive comments and other regulatory filings advocating HEN's positions.
    • Developing and maintaining good working relationships with commission and ERCOT regulatory staff and with other market participants.
    • representing HEN in its participation in industry coalitions.
    • Performing regulatory research when requested by internal HEN teams.
  • Regulatory Compliance
    • Overseeing and managing HEN's compliance with regulatory requirements before the PUCT, ERCOT and TRE.
    • Advising HEN business units on compliance with regulations and requirements from regulatory entities.
    • Coordinating with HEN Operations to complete all required compliance filings
    • Preparing and filing compliance reports and other filings as required.
    • Maintaining an electronic compliance tracker.
    • Understand and prepare for new compliance requirements.

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced legal degree/training a plus.
  • 10 years of prior working experience in electric regulatory affairs and policy advocacy required, preferably in the ERCOT region.
  • Requires a strong and current knowledge of regulatory processes, Commission rules, ERCOT protocols, and NERC standards.
  • Requires familiarity with the operations and processes of the PUCT and ERCOT.
