The Instructional Coach exhibits superior organizational and communication skills; is compassionate; can provide effective collaborative and shared leadership; and is flexible and team-oriented with a collaborative approach to working with colleagues, administrators, and parents. This individual provides professional development and guidance for teachers to improve their content knowledge and effective delivery of instructional strategies. Overall, the job of the coach is to build the capacity of the school and its teachers to meet the learning needs of all scholars. The instructional coach’s goal is to ensure that school staff acquires the understanding and skills to 1) Enhance instructional practices at the classroom level 2) Raise the level of scholar academic achievement 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: 

  • Exhibits ownership, initiative, and responsibility to ensure the holistic success of teachers 
  • Coordinates with the administrative team to ensure all programming is of the highest quality and that all scholars are successful 
  • Collaborates with Academic Team to support teachers in becoming adept at making data driven instructional decisions 
  • Creates developmentally appropriate strategic plans based on multiple sources of data (classroom observations, assessment data, teacher feedback, etc.) to support scholar growth and achievement 
  • Serves as a Coach by providing individualized coaching and support to teachers through observations, feedback, discussion, varied coaching actions and professional learning opportunities 
  • Creates a digital portfolio that houses grade-band specific online resources
  • Maintains resources and ensures that teachers can use available curriculum tools to deliver high quality instruction 
  • Supervises the Team Leads in his/her ability to support the overall development of the grade level 
  • Ensures that effective vertical team communication and collaboration occur at high levels
  • Manages the supervision of scholars and instruction during a teacher absence 
  • Contributes productively and positively to the school community and culture as a whole 
  • Attends and participates in school events and meetings outside of regular school hours 
  • Manages the supervision of substitute teachers 
  • Participation in all required coach professional development. The coach is charged with acquiring the knowledge, skills, technology skills, and instructional strategies to effectively impact the instructional practices of the teachers that are coached. He/She must remain knowledgeable about current and past research in the specific content area and other pedagogies relevant to the coaching model 
  • Identification of the school teaching and learning needs, barriers and weaknesses by analyzing scholar data, and organizing and implementing problem-solving actions with teachers (in teams and individually) to refine their knowledge and skills 
  • Primary support for teachers will include, but not be limited to, in-class coaching, observing, modeling of instructional strategies, guiding teachers in analysis of scholar work, developing lesson plans with teachers based on scholar needs, supporting data analysis, supporting the integration of technology, co-planning with teachers, and conducting classroom walkthroughs
  • Monitor instructional effectiveness and scholar progress using tools and strategies gained through professional development 
  • Assistance in collaborative development of district and state diagnostic and benchmark assessments 
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with teachers
  • Communication with supervisor and site administration through a weekly schedule/log of activities 
  • Accepts other duties as assigned 

REQUIRED SKILLS ABILITIES:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree required/Master’s preferred 
  • T4-T7 Georgia Educators Certification required 
  • 3 years teaching experience
