About The RoleThe Patient Account Specialist is primarily responsible for patient follow-up in accordance with practice protocol with an emphasis on maximizing patient satisfaction and profitability. Responsible for providing customer service to our patients, the centers, and internal departments.
Responsibilities
  • Responds to incoming calls from patients and internal departments to process credit cards, payment plans and troubleshoot patient questions/complaints.
  • Ability to read, understand and explain the explanation of benefits in order to properly answer patient billing questions.
  • Make outbound calls to patients to collect past due balances and arrange regular monthly payments or payoffs.
  • Knowledge of verification of benefits and coordination of benefit processes
  • Run patient statements monthly for each location.
  • Work closely with front office, insurance follow-up and prior authorization teams to maximize reimbursement.
  • Assist with identify copay programs, grants, and funds that can help alleviate patient responsibility.
  • Work as a team player in order to meet department goals.
  • Have a vast understanding of the claim life cycle and patient responsibility after insurance.
  • Become familiar quickly with all duties and perform them accurately, independently, promptly, efficiently while recognizing their importance and relationship to patient care
  • Ensure all deadlines for processing and reporting are achieved consistently.
Essential Competencies
  • Proficiency with standard office software application (Outlook, Microsoft Office)
  • Comprehensive understanding of coinsurance, copays and deductibles
  • Working knowledge of Medicare compliance, OSHA, and HIPAA.
  • Requires familiarity with Navi-Net and Availity, as well as payer portals.
  • Detail Oriented
  • Ability to multi-task and work across the organization
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Enjoys interacting with patients, nurses, and other healthcare professionals
  • Enjoys creating a friendly and hospitable atmosphere
  • Good at coordinating with other to meet collective goals
  • Proactive and optimistic
Education / Experience
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • 2-3 years of clerical/administrative experience, preferably in a healthcare/medical setting
PAY RANGEPay is based on a number of factors including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience and is benchmarked against similar organizations to our size and industry. For our Patient Account Specialist role, we generally pay new hires between $20.00 and $23.50 per hour. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for roles and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each situation. In addition to cash pay, full-time regular positions are eligible for 401(k), health benefits, and other company benefits; some of these benefits may also be available for part-time positions.
