Ithaca Montessori School is Hiring an Infant Assistant Guide Near Ithaca, NY

Summary:

This position requires love, patience, respect for children, and a commitment to encouraging children to be independent. A successful candidate for this position will work with their team to provide instruction and guidance to children in activities designed to promote social, physical, and intellectual growth utilizing Montessori Educational philosophy. Our school serves children aged 3 months to 6 years, and our Infant Level serves children aged 12 weeks up to 18 months old.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • General: Arrive promptly to ensure the classroom is prepared for children. Attend and participate in appropriate meetings and professional development sessions. Understand and comply with all OCFS regulations, and maintain ongoing 30 hours of professional development every 2 years.
  • Safety: Maintain proper staff-to-child ratios, ensure children are properly signed in and out by authorized transporters, maintain a clean, orderly environment, and support safety and emergency procedures.
  • Children and Curriculum: Support the lead teacher in preparing and maintaining the classroom environment throughout the school year. Assist in supporting children in material choices and behavioral choices, and ensure children are supervised at all times. Be able to provide basic care for infants including diapering and feeding.
  • Communications: Communicate professionally and in a timely manner with parents, administrators, and fellow staff members. Communicate concerns regarding children to the Program Director; be prepared to meet and discuss openly with the family. Attend parent education nights.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Meets school/state health requirements, including TB test, immunizations, and physical.
  • Meet all background clearance mandates of the NYS Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS)
  • GED or high school diploma

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree in Early Childhood, Child Development, or related field
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience working with children

Job Starts: ASAP

Hours: Monday-Friday 7:40 am - 3:40 pm

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $15.50 - $16.50 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
