Role:

Village Leadership Academy, ITAV’s K-5 elementary school, is seeking a diverse cadre of educators who possess a strong sociopolitical consciousness and a commitment to utilizing culturally relevant and responsive teaching practices. Applicants should value liberatory education, youth participatory action research, and community-connected praxis.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Cultivate a nurturing and inclusive learning environment that supports the academic growth and social-emotional development of students.

  • Collaborate in designing culturally relevant curriculum that reflects diverse perspectives, ensuring content and teaching strategies resonate with and empower students from all backgrounds.

  • Engage students in real-world problem-solving by collaboratively designing grassroots campaigns that address student-identified community issues.

  • Deliver tailored instruction through various formats including individual, small group, and whole group settings, employing differentiated teaching methods to accommodate diverse learning needs.

  • Conduct ongoing assessment and evaluation of students’ academic performance, while maintaining accurate and up-to-date records to inform instructional decisions.

  • Foster open and transparent communication with students and parents to ensure holistic support for each child's progress and specific needs.

Location: Village Leadership Academy (South Loop Campus or Bronzeville Campus)


Position Type: Full-Time

Required Education and Experience:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in education or a related field.

  • Professional Educator License (PEL) or Educator License with Stipulations (ELS) are strongly preferred but not required.

  • 3-5 years of teaching experience is strongly preferred.
